Hat Fitz - Anyone who has seen Hat Fitz perform at one of his many festival appearances across Australia know how the big man can stir up an audience. With his wild interpretations of early delta blues classics and self penned songs he has built a reputation as a hard edged raw blues man, and he cleverly juxtaposes his performances with delicate fingerpicking grooves. An iconic performer and Sunshine Coast legend, Hat Fitz plays heavily amplified acoustic blues, much of it in the style of blues guitarists from the 20s and 30s.
The Big Easy – One of the Sunshine Coast's most followed and enduring bands specializing in southern-fried blues and R&B as well as award-winning original material. With three vocalists and the New Orleans flavoured piano driven grooves of local legend Al “Barrelhouse” Hensley, searing lead guitar of Gerry O’Brien and rock solid rhythm section of Tad Graham and Bob Ward, the Big Easy are easily the Blues lovers favourites on the coast.
Blonde on Blue – Exciting Brisbane based 5 piece outfit Blonde on Blue deliver a unique blend of blues and grooves and have been thrilling audiences since 2005 with a mix of traditional favourites to modern classics with . Fronted by Dynamite female vocalist, Desley D, with Damo J on harmonica, Ian “The Professor” MacDonald on bass, Vinny “Badpaws” Corbett on guitar, and the “Rhythm Master” Richard Skelly on drums Blonde on Blue will have you up to boogie on the dance floor with a superbly influenced blend of repertoire.
JV and the Blue Rhythm Kings are an electrifying 3 piece musical experience who rock the house and warm your soul with their energetic foot stomping, hip shaking blues party music.
The B R K’s deliver a spicy gumbo of groovin’ boogie blues served on a hot bed of phat funky bass and rockin’ swampy drum beats. Freshly squeezed electric guitar and passionate vocals complete this tasty line-up that are always ready to let the good times roll!
The lineup features 3 of the Brisbane finest Blues players, RV on the blues Stratocaster, Dave “Mr Phunk” Griffiths on bass and J Vee on drums and vocals. Their extensive repertoire includes New Orleans style influences and
versions of classic songs made famous by the “3 Kings of the Blues” BB, Freddie and Albert, and Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Santana, Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, and John Lee Hooker .

Artsun's Sunshine Coast Blues Club was formed after the outstanding response to the first Sunshine Coast Blues Festival in 2005. The Coast's Blues musicians saw the need to get together and express their love for the Blues on a regular basis and after an extensive search found a home at the crossroads in Nambour.
The Royal George Hotel has been the place to Boogie to the Blues on the first Thursday of the month for over a year now, with the monthly jam celebrating its first birthday on the 1st of February 2007.
Jam Coordinators, Al Hensley and Bob Lee, along with the house band and a host of guest performers, are keeping the Blues alive on the coast with a welcome to all players to join in and spread the word of the Blues.
The word certainly does seem to be spreading with performers from across the coast regularly joined by visitors from Brisbane and interstate who appreciate the laid back atmosphere and dedication to the blues that our jam embodies.
The growing popularity of the Jam at The Royal George has inspired our members to reach out to the north end of the coast with another opportunity for players to get together at the Noosa Boathouse on the third Wednesday of the Month. Noosa Jam coordinators Kath Williams & Paul Martin welcome Blues lovers to join them for good times and great music. There is also a great house band in Noosa, and blackboard jam format, with lots of new musical alliances and networks being formed.
In 2006 the popularity of the Blues Clubs inspired us to include a new feature to our Sunshine Coast Blues Festival. The Sunshine Coast Blues Club Stage, managed by Kath and Paul, was added to the program creating an an intimate juke joint style venue where festival goers and musicians can participate in playing the Blues in the blackboard jam style of the bi-monthly Sunshine Coast Blues Club.
We knew that it would be a popular move for players to get involved but we were surprised by just how much support the Blues Club Stage received with many of our main stage performers including the Mason Rack Band (Thanks Mason and the boys) choosing to perform impromptu and encore performances along, with a huge number of enthusiatic blues players. This support has ensured that the Sunshine Coast Blues Club Stage, is now a regular feature of the Festival.
The 2007 Sunshine Coast Blues Festival, Sept 14 -16 was a great weekend of Blues with outstanding performances from all our main stage acts, and some amazing collaborations, excellent showcase bands and exposure of talent on the Blues Club Stage.
The juke joint atmosphere was very popular....special thanks to showcase bands Men In Blues, Slider Blues Band and Light Street Motors for their great shows. Congratulations to the boys in "No Problem" for their first Festival appearance, watch out for these young fellas in the future !!!
Our workshops were well attended and lots of fun. Many thanks also to all those performers who jammed it up on the Blues Stage, including Chris Finnen, Andrea Marr, and Barry Charles to name a few, and to all our local Blues Club members for coming along and playing....we have a very talented bunch of people here on the Sunny Coast !
There are some great photos in the slide show below.
It was great to see an big increase in the number of campsites at the Festival too.
Of course a big thanks must go out to Artsun, The Blues Festival Committee, our sponsors and our volunteers, without whom the Festival would just not happen !
