Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it.
Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women.
They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star.

But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel.

There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier.

Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity.

I absolutely Loved this film, a Sci-fi that has a brilliant story, great effects and the character development was top notch.

Hiya

I've been back in the edit suite and I've produced a leaner, meaner cut of Breakdown for MySpace's MyMovie MashUp. Check out this little black comedy of mine that was shot back in 2005 on next to no money and in the freezing cold.

Jump across to Icarus Films MySpace to watch all our films, learn what projects are in development or read my News & Reviews column.

It was a very decent, visually pleasing film... but sadly spoilt by the baffling ending. Who exactly was that 'bad guy' and how did he become what he was? It was thoroughly absorbing until he came along.
And as for the bit about -273 degrees? Come on...

Mesmerising and utterly astounding! Okay, so I love (decent) science fiction and all of Danny Boyle's work to date, but I remain fiercley objective. Thank Helios for Danny Boyle. A plausible and griiping screenplay from Alex Garland with fully fleshed-out, believable characters, engaging dialogue with no hideous, Hollywood 'gags' or cheesey one liners. They would have turned this otherwise engaging and serious subject into vaccuous, innocuous nonsense. Sunshine is simply beautiful, stylish and full of substance (and a smattering of high tension and shocking moments). I love it. I'm going to watch it all over again and really soak up it's powerful rays!

Went to the Q&A last night... best british sci fi ever, best sci fi in general for a good few years, and best Boyle film since Trainspotting.

So... yeah, it was alright. ;)

I attended the Sunshine Q&A preview screening last night. Whilst it is certainly a very enjoyable film, I think it was wise to move the release forward to April rather than May/June as it is in a different league to the 'Summer Blockbusters' and it may have got slightly over-looked (wrongly) amongst the likes of 'Transformers'.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will get many rave critic reviews. This isn't necessarily down to any particular fault of the film, but I expect to see many 3 out of 5 stars because 'Sunshine' doesn't fit into a neat little Sci-Fi box. I would say it attempts to be quite spiritual, with a very minor dose of horror/suspense. Also, let’s face it; British directors can get a hard time when they take on Space.

However, I would say that 'Sunshine' is still definitely worth seeing at the cinema, despite some poor reviews that came out today. The sound and cinematography are amazing. It's also worth spotting the little nods towards films such as '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'Pitch Black', 'Event Horizon' and ultimately 'Alien' (see how many you can count).

On the subject of the Q&A, Danny Boyle was particularly friendly and personable, even happy to answer questions from individual fans after the session and sign items. It was a very enjoyable and interesting experience on both counts!
