The Suns of Ivy is a quintet originating in Eastern Pennsylvania. The band is a collection of musicians deemed to be the cream of the crop in the region. Brad Stewart, and Brendan Steakelum, known in this area as a prolific songwriting team, built the idea of a band around a large catalogue of self written songs. These songs took influences from a wide variety of arists such as Ray Davies, Bob Dylan, Lennon - McCartney, Nilsson, Brian Wilson, etc. The addition of guitarist Zach Ernst, whos Hendrix inspired quitar style was already well known to the two songwriters, added a new dimension of sound, and possibilities became endless. The group was further complimented by Cliff Conrad on bass, and rounded out by Brandon Reber on drums, The addition of these two players, Conrad, a steady, plodding bassist, and Reber, thought by many to be the most talented drummer from his home town of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, formed a rhythm section which gave the band the legs it needed to perform its complex and diverse song catalogue. The five members quickly found their individual indentities within the group. Many people enjoy watching the band perform because unlike so many other bands, The Suns of Ivy is a group of five very strong identities. Five equals on stage. They are known for their love of recording, and vast knowledge of the process, allowing them to produce countless elaborate recordings, most of these recordings self produced. They have drawn the interest of thousands of music fans, and even the interest of a local film company, who financed the recording of their first full length album, Somebody's Everybody. The album was recorded at Max Films in Ephrata, Pa. This album could easliy be released by a record label, as it is already mastered, (by an engineer who mastered albums for Garth Brooks and Tom Petty in the past) and packaged. The band is also well established in live performance , having played packed concerts at venues such as "The Stone Pony" in Asbury Park, Tin Angel, Grape Street, North Star, LaSalle University, The Pontiac (all in Philadelphia), as well as opening for Dave Davies and The Kinks Chronicles and placing second in Steven Van Zandts underground garage contest in Philadelphia. Currently, the band is recording a second album.
