Jean Pockrus, a.k.a. Bucky Bucky Fun-Circus
Matti Valades, a.k.a. Fiji Onassis Valades
Influences
Old drum machines. Slinkies. Contact mics. Experimental musicians of all kinds. Our friends from Wesleyan University making music/sound circa 2004-2011.
This "band" started in the studio. It started in the Electronic Music Studio at Wesleyan University in 2007 when Jean Pockrus and Matt Valades were playing around, tapping on trash cans, fiddling with old drum machines (a favorite pastime of Matt's), recording random sounds, playing with contact mics and attaching them to metal slinkies...
Since then, we have jammed, improved, argued, edited, played around in the living rooms of friends, drummed on subways, benches, experimented with resonances in many forms...
Lately, we're interested in 'matching' the sounds of our environments, harmonizing with strange, environmental, often machine-made tones that we can't even necessarily place.
Jean especially likes singing and harmonizing with large engines, like those of airplanes and Greyhound buses.
We like playing with circuits too. We like circuit-bending. We like electronical things. We like toys. We love circus whistles. There's a special place in our hearts for mbiras (and homespun thumb pianos of all kinds).
We like regular instruments too.
Jean likes to play the cello. Matt likes to play the chord organ and the guitar.
