   About Superfly
If you haven't heard this album yet you are missing out on one of the most influential and ground breaking contributions to soul ever! Curtis Mayfield's masterful soundtrack to the 70's "Blaxploitation" film classic Superfly has survived after decades where other sounds, styles, artists, and philosophies have come and gone. Out measuring the movie it was written for in both depth and quality, Curtis' songs overflow with vibrance, groove and message that is hard hitting yet soft spoken. Driven by a powerful rhythm section and embellished with masterfully arranged horns and strings this music transports you into a time and space that is not only the world of drugs, crime, hustle and survival in 1970's inner cities but also the common trials and tribulations that we still face today. Curtis Mayfield's voice cuts through to the truth of these struggles and uplifts one's hope of overcoming demons all at the same time. "Seattle Superfly" is a rotating cast of some of the finest musicians in town, dedicated to celebrating and recreating this music live. Originally conceived as a one time experiment, this project took on a life of it's own and has had many contributors and co-conspirers along the way. Most commonly performed as a 13 piece band, we try to both preserve and rediscover the spirit and musicality behind Curtis Mayfield's genius creation.
