Following the lead of his favorite superhero, Superman, famed hip-hop celebrity party rocker, Supa DJ Rob Lover, decided to do something a little different in 2007. He decided to ‘create’ a DJ alter ego that allowed him to explore other genres and performance techniques.
“I had grown bored with the hip-hop club scene”, he explains. “It appeared to be becoming stifled and repetitive. I felt like the hip-hop audience kept us in this tiny box as far as creativity was concerned”.
Never one fearful of taking chances, Rob decided to create “Ros”, Superstar DJ Ros, to be exact. Funny thing is, ’Ros’ is more Superman than Clark Kent. “The idea behind Ros is pretty simple”, he offers. “Ros is the rock star. Ros is the DJ that will play anything from hip-hop to house to rock to electro to reggaeton. Everything!”. He continues, “ I no longer wished to compromise my artistry. Still, I wanted to find a way to keep my hip-hop audiences happy while satisfying my creative urges as well. The alter ego idea fits this desire perfectly”.
Already a favorite of the celebrity scene, his ‘Supa’ persona has been requested by personalities such as Diddy, Kim & Kourtney Kardashian, Christina Milian, and Paris Hilton for private parties and tours. Rob promises that in 2008, ‘Ros’ has the potential to possibly overtake ‘Supas’ success. “I’m going on a year long world tour starting in May 2008 under the Ros banner”, he states. “The name of the tour is ‘The Cube’. The show will feature a sensory overloading combination of music mash-ups, lighting, visuals, dancers, masks, and various other surprises. It’s going to be crazy and way over the top. Just the kind of thing my creative demons need. This might leave a mark”, he concludes while laughing wickedly. You should believe him. He is betting the house on it.
