first dj job 1988. in those days it was two tone ska & 2nd revival ska like potato 5, the trojans, the busters or the toasters. soon after that first rootsreggae & dub contact. the interest came to all kinds of jamaican music and lead to dancehall. 1992 first dancehall gig. 93/94 few shows in homebase darmstadt, germany. 95/96 the dancehallcrowd was growing and general motors – not yet in the name of superwhip – was sowing the seeds of dancehall bashment.
after a trip to notting hill carnival in 1998 he came back with a whole heap of brandnew 45..s and the idea of the name “superwhip” for his soundsystem. start of “pon de riddim” mixtape series. in 1999 general motors got part of riddim wize, a frankfurt based sound. with riddim wize he performed alongside tolga, marlon b, jah sesco, markie j, jah meek, d-flame - to name but a few – for about 6 years in a monthly overcrowded dancehallshow in frankfurt.
besides riddim wize, superwhip was growing and more mixtapes were released, more superwhip shows came along including invitations to several radioshows in the rhein/main area, solo and support shows in germany, austria & the netherlands.
nowadays superwhip hi-fi is running in different variations. besides creating remixes and riddims for several artists or riddim wize-associated mc/singer such as markie j and jah sesco, general motors is doing his passion: spinning records.
superwhip is the thing when it comes to cool ska & lovely rocksteady or heavy roots & dub sets as well as the battyshakin.. dancehall bashment. so watch out for a show in your favorite club or send a mail if you want to book superwhip hi-fi alongside dj general motors.
