Paulo is a young gay man from Peru. Paulo has been the victim of sexual harassment, both physical and emotional abuse, assault and ongoing discrimination in his country. His appeals to Peruvian officials for help were often taken lightly or completely ignored. If you are Gay in Peru, you are considered the “scum of society”. In Peru there is no such thing as a “hate crime”. Being gay or in some cases, even suspected of being gay in Peru can be a death sentence. Many Gay men live closeted and deeply depressed. They often end up committing suicide or with terrible addictions to escape the emotional prison they must live in.
Paulo had faith, a vision and a dream. His dream was to have a life where he could be himself and live each day with out fear of persecution and possibly death.
