Jim Risser (vocals/guitars) A musician and a fan, Risser began playing in bands in high school and has maintained an active musical life throughout college, medical school and now with Supraluxe. Despite juggling life as a practicing physician and spending time with his outrageously supportive wife and son, Risser finds himself rejuvenated and honestly making the best music of his life. Risser's approach focuses on the creative process of writing and developing songs. He is self-deprecating when it comes to his guitar skills (despite evidence to the contrary on Supraluxe) and demonstrates his appreciation for the instrument through frequent acquisitions. Guitars heard on this CD include 90's Les Paul Custom, a 70's Telecaster Deluxe and a 70's SG Standard. Risser is also a collector of vintage Fender and Orange amps.
Bob Burns (keyboards/vocals) A self-taught musician and engineer, Burns has come into his musical prime with Supraluxe, despite questionable early musical influences. His career in bands includes leading Quadrant, a Grand Forks, North Dakota based band for which Burns was lead singer and keyboard player. Other bands include the seminal Twin Cities band the Flamin' Ohs. (Burns can also be heard on the Flamin' Ohs 2005 release, Long Live the King). Supraluxe represents a nexus of Burns musical interests playing melodic pop/rock with great friends, finding the perfect keyboard sound for a song, and delving into the minutia of digital recording technology.
Rich Pearson (bass/vocals) Bass guitar / multi-instrumentalist. Rich came to Minneapolis from Bismarck, North Dakota and has played in 3 Below, the popular but short-lived Box of Rocks, Secret Society, and others bands of ill repute. He and his family go to bed and wake up in Minneapolis. Rich is the color guy - he provides background vocals and adds guitar to the Supraluxe sound. Guitars used on this CD include a Fender P bass, Steinberger bass, 20th anniversary Les Paul Custom, and Takamine acoustic. He also likes kitties, going for romantic walks in the park, is a good kisser, loves to cook, and likes all the same TV shows as you.
Supraluxe is a Minneapolis trio. Members Jim Risser, Bob Burns and Rich Pearson created the debut CD "Supraluxe" in the humble confines of a home studio in St. Paul. By wrapping themes of loss, anxiety, alienation and love in the gloss of shiny summerpop, Supraluxe has created an exuberantly melancholy work.
Supraluxe was borne out of a number of musicians lifelong commitment to musical exploration. For three of these musicians, a weekly standing jam session called Rock Club that included a rotating cast of up to 12 musicians and a range of instrumentations, quickly evolved into a project with both shape and form. Jim , Bob and Rich moved out of the practice space and into the studio to capture their work and formalize song structure.
Soon the trio called Supraluxe acknowledged a shared interest in creating music that recognized deep and diverse musical passions while offering something new to the American musical landscape. Incorporating digital recording technology with classic rock guitars and orchestral arrangements, their CD recalls influences as diverse as Elliott Smith, early Todd Rundgren and David Bowie.
The Album
"Supraluxe" by Supraluxe contains 11 songs, and was officially released 1/1/2006. Engineered and produced by Bob Burns with mastering by Dave Wesley (www.sursumcorda.com), the CD also features guest musician Jeff Budin.

"Here's another early favorite for my best of 2006 list:

They're a band out of Minneapolis-St. Paul who fit somewhere between
the Pernice Brothers, Elliott Smith and Teenage Fanclub.
Very good stuff. I sense the possibility of this one being "Very
Highly Recommended" when and if Bruce at Not Lame gets his hands on it.

The music of indie rock/power pop trio Supraluxe bounces with layered melodies and interlocking cohesiveness. Lead vocalist Jim Risser's soft and smooth delivery sounds far more innocent than his darkly tinged lyrics suggest. Like the sugar pop coating on top of frank bleakness on an Eels record, Supraluxe packages feelings of emptiness, anxiety and isolation with lush, danceable indie pop songs, complete with handclaps galore. It's stuff that makes you smile and tap your toes while you scratch your head.
Starting as a weekly jam session called Rock Club, which included a rotating cast of musicians, Supraluxe evolved out of these sessions into the core trio of Jim Risser (guitars, vocals), Bob Burns (keyboards, programming, vocals) and Rich Pearson (bass, vocals, additional guitars). Burns, a veteran of local heroes the Flamin' Ohs, also produced, engineered and mixed the album; he makes his pop sensible presence felt on songs like "Oleander" and "Chemical Fun."
Deftly straddling the line between slick pop and garage rock, Supraluxe sounds like a slightly more hopeful Elliot Smith fronting a band somewhere between the Love Cars and Semisonic. Unfailingly easy on the ears, Supraluxe has come out of the gate with a gem of an indie pop record. CMJ

Minneapolis / St. Paul lush power pop. Supraluxe is your musical Prozac from the midwest. Cool chemicals mix with warm melodies to make your serotonin percolate.
If you're around on Thursday, December 10th, we are playing a show at Mario's Keller Bar. I don't know if you've been there, but it's a very cool place. It's a comfortable space, the room sounds great and they have a stellar beer selection.
Also, we will be playing ALL NIGHT! We'll play some funky, bluesy, and soulful music. We'll project live video onto a 9 ft screen. We'll play some older material that hasn't been heard in awhile, as well as some brand new songs that've never been heard. All bets are off!! We'd love it if you'd come down and listen/party with us!
I wanted to let you know that we're running a 15% off promotion this week on ALL services! :) This INCLUDES MySpace design, Twitter design, album design, and promotional services! Message us now!
I just wanted to stop by and wish you a happy Sunday! I hope that the weekend brought you fun adventures, relaxation, and contentment :)
I was going to go camping this weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.
Here's the info:

We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
