Sure Hand Records was a straight edge label(with a large emphasis on vegetarianism and veganism) based in Bradford in the North of England. It was initially set up to release the Ironside cassingle in 1992. Some members of Ironside pretty much operated the label in its first incarnation though as stated its main aim was to release the Ironside cassingle and it was laid to rest as soon as the band were able to jump up to the already established Subjugation Records which was based in the nearby city of Leeds and run by two Darlington ex-pats, Helene and Ian.
After a short hiatus Surehand was kick started again by Nick one of the co-founders, infact the guy that came up with the name for the label. He started it with the other members of Unborn who formed a co-operative to run the label with their anarchist and DIY inspired politics. These people were Rat, Andy, Chris and Nick. This collective released the Above All EP (plus an Above All flexidisc featuring a song from the same recording as the EP. This flerxi came with an issue of How We Rock which was a zine run by Nick), Unborn EP and the Withdrawn MCD. During the release of the Withdrawn MCD (which featured Chris on vocals), Chris decided to leave the label and start his own more hardline orientated label Screams of Salvation.
Nick took over more of the workload for Sure Hand as the label expanded more into mailorder and distribution to shops in the North of the UK. Martin joined Nick as the label moved its base from Bradford to Manchester for a year after a brief time in Sheffield. Nick and Martin became the main force behind the label for several years. During this period they released the label defining Justice For The Enslaved compilation CD featuring Point Of No Return, Dehumanize, Clouded, Reprisal, Shed and Withdrawn. After the release of Justice, Martin left the label to start up Abstraction Communications. Nick continued with Sure Hand Records and moved the label HQ back to Sheffield. The label released demos by Circle Again and In The Clear and the In The Clear MCD. Sure Hand Records left the scene in 2001 with a few planned releases not being issued, namely the Justice Comp CD Vol 2 and the demo 7" from H Street.
The label started well but got pretty crap towards the end. Nick got more into activist politics though is on a holiday from those activities at the moment and is involved with Nazdrove at the moment, check it out on myspace.com/nazdrove.
