Three men with no fear of intimacy push the boundaries of traditional improv comedy to create spontaneous theater that is physical, intense, moving, and occasionally funny.
Surf n Turf amaze me. They are like seeing a scripted Broadway show with ticket prices ranging from $65 - $90.
The trio has been performing together in various improvised shows since early 2003. All three are founding members of Shark vs. Buffalo the first house ensemble at the Peoples Improv Theater in New York City, Foreplay Unscripted a groundbreaking erotic improv comedy troupe (official selection at the 2005 Chicago Improv Festival and the 2005 Del Close Marathon), and Merchants of Chaos a gang of hoodlum that occasionally terrorizes the stage of the Magnet Theater.
Fantastic... You guys blew me away. Seriously.
Bob Acevedo is a white Colombian, journeyman, hypnotist and improviser. He was an original member of Illinois State University's Improv Mafia and founded Beloit College's improv troupe, Voodoo Barbie. He studied at the Tokyo Comedy Store in Roppongi, Japan, where he performed with Spontaneous Confusion and The Henna Bones. He's been doing long-form since 2002 and has studied with Kevin Mullaney, Michael Delaney, and many others at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, as well as with Armando Diaz, Ed Herbstman and Pat Shay at The Peoples Improv Theater. He's also learned from Joe Bill and Mark Sutton of The Annoyance Theater, Jay Rhoderick of Centralia and Asaf Ronen from The Scene in NYC. Bob was a founding member of Shark vs. Buffalo, UCB house teams Cagney and Beatrice, erotic improv troupe Foreplay Unscripted, Project ensemble Merchants of Chaos, and indie-prov group Stomping Ground.
Last night's display of energy and skill rocked.
Ernest Privetera, born and raised in New Jersey, is a graduate of the Philadelphia University of The Arts in jazz piano. He has studied and performed improv for five years and moved to NYC to continue performing. He created and directed musical improv show Melodious Din, and has studied at Chicago City Limits, The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and The Peoples Improv Theater. Ernie was a founding member of Shark vs. Buffalo, erotic improv troupe Foreplay Unscripted, and Project ensemble Merchants of Chaos. He also provides piano accompaniment for musical improv troupes including: The Pearl Brunswick, Johnny Lunchpail, Cliche Theater, and Caf.. Verge. Ernie recently debuted his highly-acclaimed one-man musical at the UCB Theater's School Night.
These guys take comedy seriously and are skilled, talented improvisers. They were a joy to work with and a joy to watch.
Dave Furfero (furf) is an art school dropout who stumbled upon long-form improvisation during a brief, but meaningful, moment of clarity in 2001. Since that shining experience, he has studied improv extensively at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and The Peoples Improv Theater with improv luminaries Armando Diaz, Mick Napier, Joe Bill, Mark Sutton, Kevin Mullaney, Ed Herbstman, Pat Shay, Asaf Ronen, and Jay Rhoderick. furf was a founding member of Shark vs. Buffalo erotic improv troupe Foreplay Unscripted, Project ensemble Merchants of Chaos, and currently produces/hosts Ampersand: Duo Improv at the Magnet Theater.
