The City of Miami Beach, in partnership with Surfrider Foundation, ECOMB, A Better Miami Beach and GreenRoks is sponsoring a poster contest in an effort to educate residents and visitors about the harmful effects of litter on our beaches. The objective of this campaign is to encourage beach goers to keep the beaches clean by disposing their trash properly.
The poster may demonstrate the hazards beach litter poses to our residents and visitors, marine environment, economy or other aspects of our community. It may also focus on the benefits of keeping our beaches and ocean clean.
Volunteer judges from participating organizations will recommend one or more winners to the City. The selections will be based on the most creative artwork focusing on the objective of the contest. Posters submitted must be original images in the form of graphics, text or photography (no stock photos), and may include captions, slogans or brief narratives. Selected Designs could be used in conjunction with an upcoming public education campaign displayed throughout many areas of Miami Beach. For samples of the City’s other related cleanliness materials produced for this campaign, please email nrodriguez@miamibeachfl.gov.

You have an important voice in your community which is why we wanted to bring to your attention to a critical issue and ask for your participation in a discussion tonight - Wednesday, October 22nd. As you may have heard, the Lennar Corporation is seeking approval from the County to build 7,000 new homes in Parklands. At a time when the Miami-Dade housing market has already reported 59,798 pre-foreclosures in the first nine-months of 2008, why is there a need to build more?
If you are concerned about:
Decreasing home values Traffic congestion Overcrowded schools Insufficient emergency services for our fire and police Revitalizing blighted communities Impacts on our drinking water supply The Everglades and our National Parks Come out to discuss the proposed Parklands Development and what you can do to help Hold the Line.
We believe we need the community to take a careful look at proposed developments outside the Urban Development Boundary and develop a shared vision for future growth that helps protect our health, our environment, and our community.
PLEASE JOIN US:
WHEN: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM
WHAT: Discussion of the Parklands Development Project (Food and Refreshments will be provided)
WHERE: Doc Thomas House, 5530 Sunset Dr., Miami, 33143
Please contact me at dshirreffs@cleanwater.org to R.S.V.P. or call (305) 653-9101 with any questions. We look forward to seeing you on October 22nd at this important first meeting.
The Florida Department of Community Affairs' (DCA) received thousands of comments from Hold the Line activists and Clean Water Action members and responded by strongly opposing Miami-Dade County's ill advised efforts to develop outside our Urban Development Boundary (UDB).
If County Commissioners do not rescind these amendments, the DCA's objections could cost the county half a million dollars in legal costs.
Let's keep the pressure on! Please tell Miami Dade Commissioners that it is wrong to waste our taxpayer dollars to help private development interests!
Join Hold the Line as we join friends to Explore the Seams. Sprawl is not a suburban problem. Our urban allies often bear the brunt of the environmental health and economic injustices brought on by bad development. Join us as we unite for a stronger healthier Miami.
