Next school starts January 12 2008!!!! Location SFMI Maui is located in Paia, a surf town that still has some of the culture of old Hawaii. Formerly a plantation town, Paia is now a gathering place for New Agers, Buddists and world class surfers and windsurfers. People from most eastern and western philosophies meet in Paia to form a unique community, which gives us a challenging opportunity to live the Gospel daily. Who are we? SFMI Maui is an extension of Youth with a Mission Maui, an international, interdenominational Christian missions organization that was founded in 1960. The base is an extension of the University of the Nations and offers a Christ centered program geared to getting surfers on the mission field. History SFMI was birthed in 1991 out of the observation that surfers would make great missionaries. To many surfers, traveling to the ends of the world in search of the perfect wave in often times poor conditions is an adventure. Surfers overcome great obstacles for that stoke, no matter the food quality or living/traveling conditions, they are willing to embrace it all as part of the journey. In light of all this it was noted that surfers would make exceptional missionaries, if their passion for the waves could also be directed to their love for the ultimate "Wave Maker”. Surfers for Missions International mobilizes surfers and provides Biblical based discipleship and missions training. These surfers are sent out to the surfing nations to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, both to the surf cultures within these nations and the indigenous peoples of these locations. Surfers come to YWAM Maui with visions and hopes to use their God-given passion for surfing to serve and experience Him, and it is our responsibility to direct and provide the means to fulfill their vision. Discipleship Training School will be used as the foundational program from which the students can establish a platform to launch into the mission field or future training. The secondary programs such as Boomerangs and SBFM, with their curriculum designed with SFMI in mind, will further equip them to give answers to the unbelieving world. SFMI Maui is strategically located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to readily send missionaries to the Asia Pacific region. Maui is also central to various surf cultures including surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. The diverse mixture of beliefs and religious influences make this island a challenging place to reach. Many board riders seek to fill their lives with the creation rather than the Creator, thus the need for on-going local outreach is great. www.ywammaui.com If you'd like an application or to receive more info, please feel free to call us at (808)575-9460 or send us a message with your number or address.
