Romérita Prates

"My name is Romérita Prates. I am a self-taught artist who likes to paint many diverse and thematic paintings, but my main interest is create bizarre images inspired by bizarre realities. My process to create these images is similar to the process that Frankenstein used to create his monster. As he used different parts of bodies and linked them to build a new one, I make a selection of many parts of images and link them to build a new one. Images are my greatest inspiration and the way I link them is dependent of my emotional background in a moment. I love to hear the reactions and interpretations that people give to my work, no matter if they are of repulsion or amazement, because they encourage me to make even better (or terrible, :)). I also encourage you to send me any sort of weird and blow-minded stuff. This way you amuse me and keep me inspired to create more images to entertain you."

Matthew Reel

"My name is Matthew Reel. Primarily, I am a filmmaker but I also work in other mediums. In this gallery you will find my work in needlecraft. It's a medium which I've always found to belong to a certain innocent or domestic form of expression. After visiting many estate sales and seeing hundreds of cross stitch pieces depicting cottages, angels or kittens, I've felt it was a medium that could be used for other purposes. Given the nature of the medium, a cross stitch was often something that was done for the home. The pieces I have done have been based on my tastes in popular culture, often times violent or exploitive. But ultimately, and something which is important in my filmmaking, is to establish a certain mood or sensation upon looking at my work. Using such an "innocent" or "domestic" medium with such subject matter I feel establishes the sensation I am wishing to convey. Both the medium and the subject matter undercut each other for this purpose. I love meeting and talking with those with similar interests as mine, and I would love to know what you think of my work!"

I have been asked lately if I also do commissioned works. I confess I’ve not thinking very much about that until now. But I think that can be a challenge for me in many ways.

I can do any kind of stuff; portraits of you or your grandmother; your idols; your enemies (imagine you’d like make fun of them. I could paint them with the most miserable and ridiculous look… eating shit; being sodomized; mutilated; with leprosy; crucified, etc. Just use your imagination and tell me!); landscapes; abstract, cover art; etc.

CROSS-STITCH

If you would like an original cross stitch made, I can do one based on nearly any image. I do not have any set prices, it would be based on how large you would like the piece to be and how complex. The piece will be priced based on how many colors I would have to use. Feel free to contact me at any time and we can discuss details!
