"My repertoire is both old and new, it has to be that way. That's how you mature in life, and how you grow into your culture. I have traditional songs about the life of our grandparents in the countryside, others are more about rhythm and dancing. These are the festejo, the landó, the golpe é tierra. There are songs more tied to city life and more composed music: the waltz, the marinera and the zamacueca. Then there are those which in their joy and pain share a diversity of rhythmic and interpretative aims; like Afro-Peruvian culture, they are mixtures of very different forms.
The resilience of Susana Baca's talent lies in these tensions, ones which have haunted a people for centuries, and continue to rattle like ghosts throughout the history of the Americas. With her gifts of song and dance, Susana lights a way beyond the past, a way into healing. I never wanted to become a museum for the dead. Interpreting the old and traditional songs in a new way has always been my greatest goal, she avers. This is what unites the old and the new, all that is ours in an unending story."

Susana Baca is one of the great voices of modern Peru. She's taken the country's Afro-Peruvian musical heritage to stages and airwaves around the world, becoming a key figure in reviving a culture that had been largely ignored within its country. Her forthcoming album, Seis Poemas, isn't quite jazz. It is a tribute to a great voice of Peru from a different era: Chabuca Granda, a folk singer who became iconic to progressive movements and musicians throughout Latin America. With sparse arrangements, Baca emphasizes the lyrics, underscoring the renown Granda had as a songwriter depicting the simple beauties of Peruvian life and culture.-NPR

DAMARYS FIGUEROA Una voz desde Villa Clara, Cuba.
... es una de las voces jóvenes más talentosas de Cuba. Nacida el 4 de Junio de 1973 descubrió desde niña su afición por la música. En 1998 obtuvo el Premio a la mejor interpretación de la canción tradicional cubana y el primer lugar en el Festival Nacional de Jóvenes Intérpretes. Desde entonces su carrera en Cuba, y especialmente en Villa Clara, ha ido en permanente ascenso. Hoy llega a nosotros mucho más profesional, profunda y sensible, con una voz que eriza la piel y endulza los oídos. Una voz desde Villa Clara, una nueva voz... digna de ser escuchada y tenida en cuenta.
A partir de 2010, Damarys se instalará por 6 meses en Buenos Aires para presentarse en diferentes escenarios de ConoSur y Europa, grabando su segundo material discográfico.
