I’m a singer, songwriter and vocal coach in Nashville, TN. Born and raised in Berkeley, California with the hippies and the radicals, and yes, I’m a long way from home but I like it here.
I’ve sung in rock, a cappella, jazz, Motown, acoustic, folk and a bunch of hybrid bands, but these days I’m writing more country and americana songs. That's me singing 'Kickin Up Dust', other singers who can sing circles around me are singing the other songs. If you want to hear more of my artist stuff please go here --I've released five albums with my former band Susan's Room and two solo CDs since we disbanded (amicably!). Go here to hear more of my country demos.
09 song news: two of my songs (Trouble Now and Living on the Edge) are on the new album from The Irrationals, and Elastic Waistbands, a song I wrote with Nancy Moran of the Four Bitchin' Babes, will be on their new album which comes out later this year.
I'm hard at work on More Harmony Singing by Ear, a triple CD set that should be out by summer 09.
I’m a voice coach too, if you are a singer and want some free singing advice go to my teaching page , I have lots of free articles about singing posted there. Or go to my Singing Help Page . This has a bunch of cool links including links to the free articles. It also has links to all the books and CDs about singing I’ve released, including ones on how to harmonize , voice technique , and jazz singing, vocal style and scat singing CDs.
More bio: BA UC Santa Cruz (go banana slugs), MA SF State, lived in LA for twelve years where I met my husband Tom Manche . We recorded five albums with Susan's Room , toured all over, did the usual indie band thing. In 2002 we traded our dinky house in West Hollywood for a house plus recording studio in the woods on the west end of Nashville. No kids, yes two neurotic, beloved rescue dogs Artie and Ruby.
