Susan Botich originally began playing music and writing her own songs in high school. She began working as a professional musician based out of Nevada County, California in 1974. Her early influences were folk writers like Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter Paul & Mary, Donovan, etc. Some of her other earliest influences included Billy Holiday, Duke Ellington, Al Di Meola, John Mclaughlin, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills & Nash, Cat Stevens, The Beatles (of course), Jon Anderson (songwriter of the band, "Yes"), Ian Anderson (songwriter of the band "Jethro Tull"), Peter Gabriel, Sting, etc. Susan has always been very eclectic in her musical taste.
Susan always felt drawn to story telling through music and much of her songwriting reflects this by taking form as "story-songs," predominantly focused on lyric and melody. She worked as a professional musician for 15 years, going through many genres and styles, from folk to jazz to rock 'n' roll, then back to her folk and acoustic music roots.
She recorded her first album, “Dancer,” in 1985. Some of the songs sampled here are from that album.
She has just recently returned to the stage, performing her own original compositions in the northern Nevada area.
Susan is also a published poet and member of Ash Canyon Poets, based out of Carson City, Nevada, as well as a fiction and non-fiction freelance writer. She is a member of the international writers group, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
