Susan Cagle (born 1981 in Aruba) is a singer-songwriter, known best for her self-recorded album, The Subway Recordings.
The second-oldest of ten children, Cagle started performing in public stations in New York City, including Union Square, Grand Central Terminal and subway stations in Times Square. In addition to singing, Cagle plays the guitar in the majority of her performances, with her sister Caroline playing bass and her brother Jesse on second guitar.
During a show in the Herald Square subway station, Cagle was discovered by producer Jay Levine, who introduced her to then new president of Columbia Records, Steve Greenberg. She soon became his first signing in this placement.
Cagle and her band still tour and perform in New York's underground. Her album currently sells across the US, the first released single titled "Shakespeare". Susan has recently finished recording her new studio album, scheduled for release in August 2007.
On May 10, 2007, Susan Cagle and her band performed "Dear Oprah", an ode to billionaire talk show host Oprah Winfrey, on "Oprah". "Dear Oprah" features such lyrics as: "Dear Oprah, Have you ever felt like breakin’ down/ when there ain't no one who cares around/did ever you feel this way back in the day so blue/ what did you do?"
The band appeared in the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards 2006 warm up in the "You Hear It First".
She has recently wrapped up filming the Gary King Independent film called "New York Lately" as Truly Hanssen. The film is due out in 2008.
Thanks for the add Susan. I know your story being a NY'er, and remember you on Oprah. Keep me up to date your performances here! All the best, Michelle
Was underground the other night... couldn't get to the show because I'm bringing all of my recording equipment into the subway again... record #2 is about to kick off... I'm actually pretty excited about it but everything is so heavy there was no way I was making it to Rockwood.
I can't wait to get this finished... it's coming out better than I imagined! Peace girly!
so, last night i got to have the awesome experience of going with shawna and tony (my sister and brother-in-law) to take my niece and nephew to their first concert - stevie wonder at the hollywood bowl. not too shabby!
in honor of this occasion, i'm asking all of my friends to comment me back with what *their* first concert was...and then you can stop by in a couple of days and read everyone's!
incidentally...shawna's was destiny's child, 'n sync and christina aguilera tickets that she won in an acting contest. mine was steppenwolf and the guess who with my dad when i was 11. tony's was stevie ray vaughan for his 9th birthday...his choice. his taste in music is as kickass as his taste in women! :D
It's always so good to hear new music from you. You've warmed my heart from the very beginning every time I listen to you sing. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with us all.
Hey Susan! Love the new songs. I am from LA, and when I was in NYC while on tour, I was lucky enough that day to find your Subway CD at Colony Records in Times Square and love it so much! Hopefully one day would love to meet you and play together. You are one of my favorite artists right now Susan. Much Respect! Live Well, Laugh Often! ~drummerkennyd
