Who Am I?
Hello, I'm Susan, your host. I am but a trumpet playing singer and a lover of Klezmer music, Jewish liturgical and secular music, European classical music, American music, good vodka, spicy food and zesty friends.
History
I grew up in a nice suburban neighborhood just a bit west of Philadelphia. Music was a part of my daily family life from the very beginning and the tradition of being a musician has been passed down to me through three generations. I am the fourth. My great grandfather, grandfather and mother, all musicians.
My great grandfather Joseph Hoffman, from the Ukraine, learned to play the cornet in the Russian army. When he came to America, South Philly, with his wife and children in 1927 he would have a huge impact on the Philadelphia music scene through his original compositions, his band leading and his children, all of whom are mainstays in the Philadelphia musical history.
Teaching
I have enjoyed teaching for the past 21 years. I teach all levels of trumpet and begining piano. I have also taught high school English, Math and how to make the perfect matzoh ball to Native American on the Northern Cheyenne reservations in Montana.
My studio is located in the Western suburbs of Philadelphia, convenient to the Main Line and Center City. I am the recomended trumpet teacher for the Lower Merion and Haverford School Districts and also for several private schools.
I enjoy empowering my students with usefull skills - like being able to play.
Hey Susy! Thanks a lot for the request. You are just fantastic! In fact we met once in Canada at klezkanada if you remember. How is life going? I've added you to the friends but somehow do not see you in the list... Maybe you try to add me?
Love,
Sita
Just wanted to add: I love your trumpet-playing!!
I see you do a workshop in Paris - maybe next time you come to Europe I´ll be able to be there...
all the best - Ole, the trumpetplayer
Hi Susan!
Congratulations on your new profile!
You may remember - I´m the danish clarinet-player who attended your class at klezcamp some years back - mr. B - (as my name seems to be impossible to pronounce in straight american language..)
Great seeing you here, i love your music - if you ever get to Denmark let me know!
Cheers Bjarke Kolerus/Klezmofobia
