A shy child she dreamt of being a singing sensation and was the typical hairbrush singer. Like many country kids, though, she listened to her parents sage advice and got "a real job" (medical imaging technologist) which is now paying for the dream job she is pursuing afterhours. Susan moved from Sydney to Melbourne to pursue a career in standup comedy. With some success in this area as a wildcard finalist for the Victorian State Finals of Raw Comedy (2004) Susan began writing song parodies and original comedy songs. So many people commented on her voice that she decided to undertake vocal training and found the wonderful and talented Nikki Nicholls (ex John Farnham, Kylie Minogue and current "girls, girls, girls"). It was via Nikki that Susan met her now producer, Paul Norton (Stuck on You, Much Ado About Nothing (musical score)) and Michael Cristiano (ex Fisk and Cristian, producer). They banded together to co-produce her first single "Got The Monkey Off My Back" and "Not Today". Since those fateful meetings and the subsequent recording Susan has enjoyed being a featured artist at the Mildura Country Music Festival (2007), a contestant and finalist at various Tamworth Country Music Festival competitions (2007) including taking the big prize at West Leagues Club Karaoke competition. She has enjoyed airplay across the country featuring on Nick Erby's CMR syndicated country music programme Jan-Feb 2007 and making it into the top 100 of HOT FM (Mildura radio). Described as "quirky" Susan's personality shines through in her music. Her songs seem to write themselves and just arrive out of nowhere in a spasmodic ethereal kind of way. It's hard to put an adjective to her actual style of song except to say they are melodic, uplifting and definitely not mainstream. Susan likes the idea of crossing the boundaries of music genres and intermixing styles to create an well rounded experience for the ears. She's a little left of centre and likes to take her audiences on a journey of joy and fun, with a twist. Susan loves to perform and has done many charity gigs around Melbourne, including the Noise Bar (August 18th 2008) where she played, along with many others, at the ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS GIG. Clips were taken by NOISE/ASYLUM TV and Susan has been shown on both programmes at various times this year since that gig. Susan has been a special guest at the NU COUNTRY TV christmas shows and is currently gigging in Melbourne under the name SUSAN LILY AND THE GORGEOUS COWBOYS. She has been support act for other Melbourne acts like ZEPTEPI (Noise Bar Nov 1st 2008), and VICTOR PENDER (Espy Basement Bar Friday 21st Nov 2008). Susan Lily and her band THE GORGEOUS COWBOYS were feature act at HARDIMANS CAFE WINEBAR (Friday 28th Nov 2008) along with special guests ROBBIE DERRINGER and WINTER LIGHTS. Susan will also feature in an AURORA TV (foxtel) production called COUNTRY CROSSROADS sometime in March 2009. Currently working on her independently funded debut album (with producer Paul Norton) Susan envisages it will be released sometime in the mid year. Her current mission is to get out and about playing in as many venues in Melbourne as she can. ...... ...... Susan recently jumped on radio to speak with one of Melbourne's funniest comics, Dave O'Neil. Turns out Dave didn't have a 21st birthday party so the station decided to hold one for him. Susan offered to write a song and now has composed her first jingle.... so look out!!!! Here is the link in case you'd like to check out Susan's performance http://www.vega915.com.au/site/home.aspx ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
