"Song of the Year song & lyric writing contest has received the votes from the judges from November 2008 round. "Forever and Ever" in ROCK-catergory was quite impressive and made "Runner Up" placement!"
Runner-Up received the judges highest scores directly below the winners.
With a distinct alto voice that makes you feel in spite of yourself, Susan Souza not only has an unforgettable name, but an unforgettable delivery of passion. Although she describes herself as, a “rocker at heart”, Susan’s songs cross musical boundaries and reflect her eclectic rock, pop, folk, and progressive influences. She is hard to categorize and you won’t forget her.
Originally from New Bedford, Massachusetts, Susan began performing in Key West, Florida as a teenager. Since then, she has entertained audiences all over the country. Through the years, her musical vocation has taken many forms: as a solo artist, in acoustic duos, and as a lead singer of a band.
After taking a long break from performing and recording in the late 90s and early 2000s to pursue a “ normal” life, Susan realized that the inner peace that creating music offered was worth giving up the conventional securities she thought she wanted.
Susan resumed her music career, deciding never to stop again, in mid-2004 with her 6 song EP release, “Can Be Found.” At the onset of 2005, Susan began performing solo, appearing at festivals, venues, and showcases. In the fall of 2005, Susan released “Inside and Outside,” for which she was nominee for “Outmusic’s” Outstanding Debut Recording. In addition, “Outvoice” online listeners voted “Inside and Outside” in the top 10 of a top 40 chart, for 11 consecutive months, and overall staying on the top 40 chart for 14 months during 2006-2007.
In just a few short years of being “back in the music scene,” Susan has built a solid reputation for herself. Sharon Santos recently joined Susan as a percussionist, drummer, and sometimes bassist, in order to reflect the advancing complexity of her body of work.
Her long terms goals are to have her songs in film and television, obtain a management company, tour in a bus for way too long, play for packed venues around the world, and continue to write songs that people care about.
