The Sussex Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1987 by the late Ian Hamer to play his original compositions and arrangements together those of musicians with whom he was associated, including Tubby Hayes, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Tracey and latterly Paul Busby. We specialise in modern and contemporary jazz, combining adventurous big-band writing with exciting improvised solos. The Sussex Jazz Orchestra comprises some of the finest jazz soloists in the area, in addition to many talented, up-and-coming players.
The SJO rehearses at the Hare and Hounds on Preston Circus, Brighton every Thursday from 8pm and is directed by Martijn van Galen
