Sustain started 2002 as a songwriterproject, between Raymond Hille Helebrand and Rick Olmeyer.. The kind of music they had in mind was, melodic (hard)rock with a clear songstructure and well chosen vocal melodies. The writing stage went very well, and after just a few months they had enough material to record an album.
The search of ways to get these songs properly recorded was a lot harder than they thought . At the end of 2003 Ivo Kikken was called in, to record the drums at the Marlstone Studio in Bunde (NL), where we would find his brother Rig Kikken to record the songs with us. For the bass parts Ron Bormans, was asked. Hille did all the guitarparts and Rick did a great job. Recording was finished end of juli 2004.
They recorded 11 melodic rocksongs in the tradition of bands like scorpions, dokken, gotthard, for this album and after hearing the songs, Rock Inc. was supported Sustain with a distribution / promotion deal for the Benelux.
Sustain's debut album This is Now' hit the BeNeLux end of 2004. The national press picked up the album very well and magazines like Aardschok, Rock Tribune, Headache and Mindview are very positive about the debut cd of Sustain. Thanks to several international rock e-zines Sustain also gets good critics about the product from fans in Norway, England, United States, Argentina, Canada etc.
To promote the album live, they needed a solid band and the first to show up was Guido van den Brink (guitar). Furthermore they found Aram Rogalski (bass) and Ralf Haan (drums), to complete the live band.Sustain did some unplugged gigs (together with Perzonal War), radio shows and lots of interviews. During this period it became clear that Rick wasnt the right person to perform the songs live. Altough he did a great job on the album. He left the band, shortly after the release of the album.
After several auditions, the young Jos Severens (21) came in the picture and after three meetings, the band decided (half February 05) to give him the job. The first live gigs, with Jos, were done in march that year and the reactions on his performance were very positive. End of 2005 Ralf left the band and Dave Coumans was asked to join the band.
In this period the band got also a chance to score distibution deals for Germany and Spain. Sustain promoted the album around the Netherlands as a support act for bands such as VandenPlas, After Forever and did a package deal with Cooper inc. The Booch? Festival was also one to remember. End of 2006, there was decided to start writing new material. The Live band split up for the time being and Hille started writing new songs. For now the new album is set to blow you away around the beginning of 2008!!!!!!!!!!
