Suzanne calls her style "alt-americana." A reviewer of her 2006 EP "BOOMchick" offered this comparison: "White Stripes channeling Dinosaur Jr. through a 60's fuzz box...with added Kerouac...and Patti Smith..." With a sweet and gravelly vintage guitar tone, voice and poetry to match, she shows all her roots through stained glasses on the self-produced cd (available at CDBaby.com). Suzanne was joined by bassist/vocalist Tom Thompson in summer 2007 and drummer Jason Oppat a few months later. The trio is poised for a major breakthrough, and another cd is on the horizon in 2008.
One misty-eyed fan put it this way: "Her songs are so good she could play them on a bucket and they would still work." In 2003, the judges at the Willamette Valley Folk Festival voted Suzanne a winner of the New Song Competition with her song, "Never Let U Down," also on her EP. "Imposter" reached into the double digits on Neil Young's "Living With War Today" listener-voted ranking. "BOOMchick" is experiencing a toasty warm reception on indie and internet radio stations worldwide, charting in top 25 lists for several weeks. Suzanne was a recent featured artist on IndieGuitarists.com, and a Spotlight Artist at Sonicbids.com. All in all, the strawberry blonde transplant from Kansas isn't complaining. Music has always been a way of life for her, having grown up in a prolifically musical family where entertainment equalled singing and playing instruments together, usually around her mother's piano. Bassist/vocalist Tom Thompson is also a first cousin. Suzanne's brother, Freddie Brooks, is a professional blues harmonica player, whose licks graced the TV show "According to Jim." His harp playing is featured on Suzanne's song "Intention." She encourages anyone with a love for harmonica or the blues to seek out Freddie's cd, "One Little Word," available through Amazon.com.
