Suzette has just released her third album - 'Both Sides Now', which is collection of originals and covers that speak about the mid-life. The songs reflect on lost opportunities and new beginnings. The title track is the fabulous Joni Mitchell number, 'Both Sides Now'. Suzette also has a version of 'Lucky Ol' Sun', a song learned from the late 'The Man in Black' Johnny Cash. A tribute is also paid to Joan Baez, in a song called 'Shining', which celebrates this inspiring icon of folk music and her 50 years of public performance.
Suzette recently received a standing ovation at the National Folk Festival in Canberra 2009 for her show "Shining" - celebrating Joan Baez, her life and her songs. She is available to present the show at other venues.
Suzette also presents a concert titled "Called to Shine" which is a story/song presentation about her spiritual journey. Suitable for churches, schools and other events exploring soul and spirituality.
Suzette's previous albums:
Suzette's debut album 'Never Too Late' was released late in 1997. It is a collection of songs that speak of freedom. It contains the song 'Come Walk with Me' which was written for Nelson Mandela on his release from prison.
'A Place To Call Home' is a collection of mainly original songs that reflect the theme of home and of seeking a home when one is homeless or a refugee to this land and it is influenced by the story of Suzette’s own journey as well as the stories of others’ search to find a place to belong.
This album contains the popular 'Light a Candle' and 'I am Australian', with Suzette's special verse written for migrants and refugees. Other songs tell of the plight of the refugees and asylum seekers in 'Journey on the Wind' which was one of the top five finalists in the songwriting awards at Music Oz in 2006/
Suzette, whose interests include country music, gospel, folk and blues and "any great song", finds it hard to place her songs in a particular category. " I suppose you could call it contemporary Australian Folk or as I sometimes call it 'Folk/Country Soul'. It's about the stories and experiences of people of our time. I love songs that tell a story. Some songs tend to have a social or political focus. I think that comes from the influence of people like Joan Baez and Pete Seeger who use their music to bring awareness to a particular issue or just to touch people."
Suzette has performed at a variety of venues and events over the years. In recent times you can find her at community events and festivals as well as facilitating a singing session at her local hotel - THE QUIET MAN. Festivals she has performed at include the Kensington Community Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Maldon Folk Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Victor Harbour Folk Festival and the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival.
Don't miss this award winning songwriter and performer who has been described as "a charismatic singer-songwriter with a heart in tune with her world and a voice to go with it" (The Australian Songwriter).
