Sounds Like
classical soul, that good ol' funk, and chicago style blues
SUZY BRAVO & THE SOUL REVUE is a supergroup of San Antonio musicians from a few of the city's most engaging bands featuring; EDDIE HERNANDEZ on bass from SUN-DAY & SEXTO SOL, ROLAND DE LA CRUZ on guitar from LOS MESCALEROS & MASTERS OF LOVE, PAUL WARD from THE SWINDLES and Romantic Explosion on drums, Brant Sankey from SPIES LIKE US on guitar, Gabriel from ST. MARY'S STREET HEALERS on sax, and BRAVO sings lead.
The band pays tribute to the soul & blues sounds reminiscent of the 60's Stax era and adopt the music by redirecting it's naturalsoul power with their own raw rock and punk TACOLAND roots. Songs featured by the band include covers from classic artists such as; JAMES BROWN, ETTA JAMES, OTIS REDDING, FREDDY FENDER, RANDY GARIBAY, JIMMY REED, GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS, REV. AL GREEN, JAMES BROWN and WILSON PICKETT. The revue also features songs from contemporary artists such as THE BELL RAYS and SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS.
Don't be surprised if you catch a few special appearances. Special guests in the past include; SAM from SEXTO SOL on back-up/duet vocals and keyboards, ADRIAN RUIZ on trumpet, JUAN RAMOS from SEXTO SOL , FRED HYMES from LOS MESCALEROS on harp, CINCO on vibes, and legendary San Antonio sax player, FRANK RODARTE.
As FRANK RODARTE says it best, we're "a bunch of beaners with soul. Beaner Soul!"
After a great 2 year Tuesday residency at THE MIX, the band ended their residency on New Year's Day 2008 but continue performing shows throughout the city. This includes the Soul Revue's annual "SUPER BAD JAMES BROWN TRIBUTE SHOW" on JAMES BROWN's birthday at The Limelight which was featured on the cover of San Antonio's "THE CURRENT" and voted "Best Tribute To a Recently Deceased Artist" in 2007. Also, don't miss out on this year's second annual HALLOWEEN DISCO at the Mix HALLOWEEN NIGHT!
