Sounds Like
A very unique blend of Americana, acoustic electric roots rock. Heavy on the vocals and a song selection not usually heard in clubs or radio.
Suzy-Ray-Vaughn formed in 1997 for the sole purpose of a 45 minute performance at Hampton Bay Days in Hampton, VA. It was so much fun we decided to stay together.
Suzy is fairly new to the music scene and is one of the most natural harmony singers around. Ray has been playing music in the Tidewater area for over 40 years in quite a few bands. Vaughn has performed solo, duet and in groups for the last 40 years in the Tidewater area also.
One of the winners of the Sea Level New Songwriters Contest was a beautiful young black woman named Gayla Robinson. She sang a very soulful, heartfelt protest song about the war, and Sam McDonald & I were both very impressed with her. She has a helluva voice, too. She's just getting comfortable playing in front of people, and she's just getting her guitar chops together, but it's easy to see that there's a whole lot of songs in there waiting to come out.
She sent me an email telling me she just wrote a song about health care. Because of the dial up I'm using (only temporarily until Verizon hooks me back up next week) I'm not able to listen to it, but I thought you might be interested in checking her out.
In person she's very sweet & humble and very open to suggestions and constructive criticism.
Give her a listen, and if you like what you hear, please let her know. You might want to keep her in mind for any acoustic events. I don't think she has a whole set of material yet, but even she just plays a couple of songs, she makes an impression.
I was going to paste her link here, but nothing is working like it should. Dang it. You can find her in my Top 40 on my page or just put her in the search engine. Gayla Robinson.
