Born September 4, 1981, Sven Hooson is an old soul in a new world. His music is inspired by artists from around the globe and covering the musical spectrum. Sven plays several instruments, including dulcimer, guitar, and the Theremin, not to mention that he has an ability to create music with anything he touches. He writes songs that are extremely personal and doesn’t hold anything back; his songs are just as much a therapy to him as they will be to you.
Sven began his musical endeavor when he was 9, singing in the Atlanta Boys’ Choir, and stayed with them for about 3 years. He picked up a dulcimer at a family friend’s house when he was 13, and instantly fell in love. He began playing traditional Appalachian folk songs, putting music to poems and stories, and eventually writing his own songs. As his talent grew, he needed more than the simple tones and chords that the dulcimer had to offer, and began to experiment with his mother’s old guitar, which at the time only had 3 strings. He quickly taught himself the basics and learned more through jam sessions with high school friends. Playing songs like Jack by Widespread Panic and Paradise by John Prine, everyone who heard his voice knew that he had talent.
Years later, with plenty of his own songs under his belt, Sven decided that he wanted to know more about guitars. Inspired by one of his high school teachers, who built him his first guitar, he went to school to learn the ways of the luthier. He had found yet another talent. Now an adept luthier with a knack for inlay, Sven knows just as much about his guitar as he does about himself, and it shows. Lyrically, you will hear humor, sadness, pain, and elation. Musically you will find a simple artist with simply enjoyable songs.

Hi Sven! Thanks for supporting my Zen of Busking efforts. I am writing more and more these days and enjoying documenting my busking experience. I will keep posting new songs recorded "in the field" while busking so please have a listen to what the SF commuters, citizens and tourists are hearing on a regular basis! I've been able to stretch out into some new directions stylistically like playing more jazz and I enjoy writing about my little adventures running around this great city.
I would love to come back to the Ville sometime, but would really like to have some shows scheduled and some recording sessions and so on...so...if any fun events are coming up or you know of any projects that could use my hillbilly baroque roque talents, let me know and maybe I can make my way out there for a little working vacation. Definitely keep thinking about Merlfest in April, so maybe some shows b4 or after the big fest...Thanx 4 dropping me a line brother man!-fd
