Born in the Russian Far East, Svoy began taking classical and jazz piano lessons as a child. As a teenager, he moved to Moscow looking to experience music and life in a big city, and ended up studying with top jazz professionals in the country (including pianist Igor Bril and the late great composer Yury Saulsky), and later got a Degree from the renowned Gnessins' Academy.
In 2000, Svoy got a dual scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned a Degree in Professional Music. While in Boston, Svoy explored songwriting and production. In 2002, he won the BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship and spent six weeks studying with Grammy and Emmy-winning TV composer Mike Post (writer of such TV themes as Law & Order, NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, among others) at his studio in Hollywood. In 2004 one of Svoy's songs won the 3d place at BMI's John Lennon Competition for songwriters in New York. The judges included legendary Grammy-winning record producer Russ Titelman (George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, James Taylor) and hit Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn. Thousands of applicants participated in the competition that year. In June 2004 Svoy received the award from BMI and Yoko Ono, personally.
While still at Berklee, Svoy began working on a number of songs that he planned to eventually have as a demo. Fascinated with many different styles of music, including electronica, rhythm & blues, rock, he experimented using a portion of each influence, when writing and producing at his home studio. Once several tracks were finished, Svoy played the new material to friends and music industry professionals, and was surprised to learn that the tracks were more than just demo-quality. Svoy went back to recording and by the end of 2005 had a full-length album completed. Self-produced Eclectric was released independently, which led to getting signed to a record deal with Beverly Hills-based label Rendezvous Entertainment (Universal Music Group Distribution), a publishing deal with Universal and an endorsement deal with Yamaha. Rendezvous released Svoy's debut record in the U.S. in May 2007.
In summer 2008, Svoy recorded a 5-track EP of 4 revisited songs from Eclectric, and a cover of Bjork's 'Unison'. In February 2009, Consequence EP 1.0 was released digitally on Svoy's Sixteenth Republic Records and is now available internationally on iTunes, as well as Amazon MP3 in the U.S.
Svoy's second album was completed in early 2009 and will be released later this year.
Haven't been on myspace in a while.. but listening to you on my ipod drove me here to see if any of the new music has materialize... and low & behold...sure enough there is some. You are so gifted... I HATE current radio in my area.. they play the same sh*t over and over and very little is as "tasty" as your tunes are. Keep at it, Mr. S. You rock my world :)
What's up Svoy! Long time no speak. I see you're still makin great music. Are you still in Brooklyn? Hope all is well! If you still wanna collab on some stuff I'm always down. Be good man.
Hey Svoy, you are the power and presence of Love creating all of this. It's not real. It's completely made up. You are amazing for convincing yourself that any of this was real! Nice work. It's a very convincing illusion. I feel totally real.
'Shy' is so beautiful. I have been playing it nonstop this week :) That song means a lot to me in my life right now... Thank you for the music, Svoy! ~Cassie
I LOVE Psychotherapist. My favorite new one. And Automations is one of your best so far...actually it kind of reminds me of Depeche Mode at times! I really hope that you tour soon; to hear your songs performed live would be amazing. Any chance to see you in Florida? :) Keep up the brilliant work. And thank you for the new music. ~Cassie
