A spiritual genius of commanding intellect and power, Vivekananda crammed immense labor and achievement into his short life, 1863-1902. Born in the Datta family of Calcutta, the youthful Vivekananda embraced the agnostic philosophies of the Western mind along with the worship of science. At the same time, vehement in his desire to know the truth about God, he questioned people of holy reputation, asking them if they had seen God. He found such a person in Sri Ramakrishna, who became his master, allayed his doubts, gave him God vision, and transformed him into sage and prophet with authority to teach. After Sri Ramakrishna's death, Vivekananda renounced the world and criss-crossed India as a wandering monk. His mounting compassion for India's people drove him to seek their material help from the West. Accepting an opportunity to represent Hinduism at Chicago's Parliament of Religions in 1893, Vivekananda won instant celebrity in America and a ready forum for his spiritual teaching. For three years he spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England and then returned to India to found the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Exhorting his nation to spiritual greatness, he wakened India to a new national consciousness. He died July 4, 1902, after a second, much shorter sojourn in the West. His lectures and writings have been gathered into nine volumes.

"Look upon every man, woman, and everyone as God. You cannot help anyone, you can only serve: serve the children of the Lord, serve the Lord Himself, if you have the
privilege."
"Mankind ought to be taught that religions are but the varied expressions of
THE RELIGION,
which is Oneness,
so that each may choose the path that suits him best."
" We are dying of thirst sitting on the bank of the mightiest river. We are dying of hunger sitting near heaps of food. Here is the blissful universe; yet we do not find it. We are in it all the time and we are always misjudging it. Religion proposes to find this out for us. The longing for this blissful universe is in all hearts. It has been the search of all nations, it is the one goal of religion, and this ideal is expressed in various languages in different religions. It is only the difference of languages that make all these apparent divergences; one expresses a thought in one way, another a little differently, yet perhaps each means exactly what the other is expressing in a different language."

"Do not care for doctrines, do not care for dogmas, or sects, or churches, or temples; they count for little compared with the essence of existence in each man, which is spirituality; and the more this is developed in a man, the more powerful is he for good. Earn that first, acquire that, and criticise no one, for all doctrines and creeds have some good in them. Show by your lives that religion does not mean words, or names, or sects, but that it means spiritual realization. Only those can understand who have felt. Only those who have attained to spirituality can communicate it to others, can be great teachers of mankind. They alone are the powers of light."
All Hindu traditions declare all people to be manifestations of the divine essence, the Atman, and Avatars to be individuals who are far more acutely and extensively aware of this fact and its implications than most, and who have entered the mortal realms voluntarily to teach important truths to humanity, and who usually have extraordinary abilities to aid in these roles.
I shall inspire men everywhere, until the world shall know that it is one with God
Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this divinity within, by controlling nature, external and internal. Do this either by work, or worship, or psychic control, or philosophy - by one, or more, or all of these - and be free. This is the whole of religion. Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples, or forms, are but secondary details.
Thank you for your presence here and for the wonderful tribute to Swami Vivekananda! In radiance, Ulexyss (Nadantananda)
Truly dualism is the root of suffering. There is no other remedy for it than the realisation that all this that we see is unreal, and that I am the one stainless reality, consisting of consciousness.
I am pure awareness though through ignorance I have imagined myself to have additional attributes. By continually reflecting like this, my dwelling place is in the Unimagined. - Ashtavakra Gita
thank you so much for accepting us- congratulations for creating this page for one of the greatest spiritual minds of mankind, we wish you merry christmas
"The power of logical reasoning is too difficult to be found in all persons at any given time. But in every stage of human history, certain souls are born who are intuitively capable of expressing (at least one aspect of) this Reality in full. Their lives and sayings closely approximate the Truth, and become a religion for future generations. We call such a person an Incarnations or Avatar Purusha. As one human being is capable of reflecting one or at the best a few aspects of Reality, the religion he or she establishes reflects partial Truth, depending on the priorities and preferences determined according to the need of the time. Hence, with passage of time, externals of religions appear to change and fade into oblivion, but principles remain the same.
Sri Krishna, Lord Buddha, and Jesus Christ are a few examples of such phenomena. Their glory is sung today with great devotion; they are worshipped in temples and churches; many a religion is named after them. However, with passage of time, lethargy about their teachings and sayings sets in, creating doubts in the minds of average persons. This results in confusion about the meaning and definition of Truth or true religion."
"To give another example; we can transmit electric energy to any part of the world, but we have to send it through wires. The nature, however, can send enormous quantities of electricity without any wire. Why wouldn't we be able to do the same? We can send mental electricity anywhere. What we call spirit, in a great measure is the same as electricity. It is clear that the nerves fluid contains a certain quantity of electricity, as it is polarized and has all qualities of electricity. Now we can send our mental electricity only through these nerves channels. Why wouldn't we be able to send it without this aid? Yogis say that this is quite possible and realizable, and that when you succeed in doing it, you will be able to do it throughout the whole Universe. You will be able to act anywhere, with any body, without any aid of nervous system. "
