SWAMP was formed in 2000 from the heart of Marty Good, and brought to life by The Swampbrothers: Marty Good and Paul Thomas. Marty wrote most of the lyrics, about fishin, and drinkin, and playing music, and sings lead vocals on all but two songs. He also plays a mean harmonica throughout the CD. The production team was rounded out by Paul, who played guitar, keyboards, and drums, and helped Marty flesh out his soul into this music. Paul handled the recording, and did all the mixing and mastering of the CD. But the band would not be cohesive without the bass playing of Tom Waters, who now lives in Nashville. It was Tom, Marty and Paul who originally sat down at Escondido Studios, where Swamp was born, and jammed on bass, guitar, and harmonica, which resulted in the songs Pole Down, Out On The Road, Swamp Girl, and Snake In The Hole, songs that epitomize the spirit of SWAMP. Add to the mix Sandy Watson, whose sweet and honeyed back vocals perfectly balanced the gruff lead vocals of Marty, and suddenly Swamp was a unique sound in the ocean of mediocre music. The genre is undoubtedly Americana: a blend of rock, folk, blues and country. Some call it “hard country”, some call it “hard folk rock”, but whatever you call, it is unique, creative, and a joy to listen to.
The SWAMP CD is one of a kind, and is the only one that will ever exist, due to the passing of Marty Good on April 4, 2006. Rest in peace, Swampbrother.
