The best music-the best art- tells us a story about ourselves that we may feel intuitively but lack the words to articulate. Swampdweller has fashioned a new language that is rooted in the syntax and structure of afro-beat and draws on the vocabulary of soul, and hip-hop. Swampdweller brilliantly evokes the rhythm of the modern world, with all of its beauty and danger, its clarity and its ambiguity, and its possibilities for discovery and loss.
Swampdwellers first CD was informed and inspired by the sounds of Fela Kuti, Miles Davis, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, and RZA. Swampdweller, an eight piece band from Seattle Washington, rise above their influences by mixing new sounds, new music in unique ways. Their Jazz roots are shaded with expansive arrangements and experimental flourish, a bombastic blend of afro-beat, hip hop, and soul. Swampdweller is Marc Fendel's newest project and was written and formulated while backpacking in the Enchantments area of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
