Swampstompers, (Name borrowed from Layne's Uncle Zeke's old band the Cypress Swamp Stompers) is a revolving group of friends dedicated to bringing old dancehall style Cajun music back in style. Currently comprised of Jeremy Blouin on accordion, Layne Zuelke on fiddle and Ryan Patterson on guitar. Ryan has been on the stage since he was a tee garcon, and learned cajun rythm playing with Al Berard and Danny Collet at Boutin's every Wed. night. He plays the cleanest chops you ever heard and drives the whole show with his tight rythm. Layne Zuelke, despite the german name, comes from a cajun family full of musicians with his Father on banjo, mom on guitar, grandpa on drums and uncle Zeke on Bass, fiddle and accordion. He spent his early years falling asleep on a pallet while a full blown jam session was raging most nights. Layne put down the fiddle at 10 and didn't pick it back up till he was 34 when he immersed himself in cajun music and language. Jeremy was a late comer to cajun music. He picked up the accordion in his 20s and took to it like a frog takes to the frying pan. They were meant for each other. He plays in a traditional style reminiscent of Octa Clark and Ray Abshire. The guys are in the garage now arranging songs and generally cutting up and sometimes making good music.
