BOOKING:
Please read all our booking and payment information before contacting us.
All you have to do to get booked at Swayze's is message us through Myspace -- www.myspace.com/swayzesvenue.
If you're a local artist -- check out our Myspace blog. We post show openings about once a week there.
swayzesvenue@gmail.com is our e-mail address.
No booking calls please.
We specialize in booking a very small and specific musical niche -- SCENE and UNDERGROUND MUSIC, which means indie, emo, punk, pop punk, ska, power pop, scene pop, scene metal, metalcore, deathcore, hardcore, acoustic, folk, experimental, noise, and spoken word. Basically, if you sound like NICKELBACK, GODSMACK, AUDIOSLAVE, SEVENDUST, etc., we WILL NOT be able to help you out. Don't be offended by this notion as there are plenty of places in the Atlanta area for bands with those sounds to play.
We DO NOT book artists that play or sample copyrighted music.
We do not have a bar or allow alcohol, so bands that cater to an older audience should look to play at other establishments.
Our booking priorities are to our locals (those who live in the Metro Atlanta area) and to touring bands on actual tours.
Swayze's stays booked up in advance. So, if you're touring and writing about a show that's less than 2 months away, we probably won't be able to help.
It never hurts to ask, but we usually book all our shows up to capacity -- making it impossible for your band that got "screwed over" to "jump on" one of our shows.
Band load in is usually at 6:00 p.m., but sometimes earlier. Please check with us or your show's promoter if you have any questions.
Bands arriving late (that haven't talked to us prior or during load in) are assumed not to be showing up for the show. After 7:00 p.m., or whenever door time is for your particular show, if you haven't called 770-590-0111 and actually talked to us, or made prior arrangements with us, please don't plan on showing up to play.
PAYMENT:
We generally offer door deals to touring artists and packages. We will not negotiate guarantees with artists and packages who cannot sell 100 tickets in our market.
We do not offer local bands guarantees (because what's to stop a local from playing other local dates around the date booked here?).
Local bands can make money off the door after the club hits its nightly expenses. Obviously, if a show has touring bands, the expenses on that show are higher than without touring bands. Locals wanting to get paid off the door need to stick around for the entire show and support their fellow musicians. You should be nice, undemanding, approachable, and civilized to whoever is working your show. People that pitch fits, cause scenes, have bad or ridiculous attitudes, etc., are never paid here (and pretty much anywhere).
We do not require bands to pay to play -- that's ridiculous. Never pay to play anywhere.
However, we do offer a completely optional ticket selling program for local bands. Currently, local bands can make $5 per advance ticket they sell. That's 2 to 5 times what other clubs pay their local bands.
Be realistic. You're not going to get rich playing here or anywhere. All veteran musicians know that the real money in playing music is made off of merchandise sales. So, make t-shirts, make CDs, make anything that you can sell and sell it here. Swayze's never charges bands a merchandise rate (artists keep 100% of all their sales).
Every show is promoted heavily at Swayze's. We're established. Kids know where we're at and they know what's happening on our schedule. Sometimes a show's turn out just depends on who's playing (as cold as it sounds, some bands are just more popular than others). But with your help, every show can be be a success.
Here are a few tips for promoting your Swayze's shows...
-Don't play too much. If you play too much in one area you'll saturate any following that you have. You can't play Masquerade one weekend, Swayze's the next weekend, Triangle the weekend after that, the Warehouse the weekend after that, The Local the week after that, etc., and expect to draw the same crowd. You won't because you'll kill your band's demand playing that much. It not only hurts your band when you do this, but also hurts all the clubs you're playing at as well. Just imagine how big your band's shows would be if you spent the same amount of time promoting your shows as you did playing a show every weekend.
-Promote your shows for at least a month in advance. Have the show posted online with an online flier at least one month in advance. Have hard fliers to hand out. Two weeks before the show, start pushing really hard. One week before the show, start pushing harder.
-Make fliers and hand them out to actual people at shows, at school, work, etc. Believe it or not, fliers still work. They probably work better now than ever, because less people are using them. But you can't just leave your fliers on a counter somewhere and expect people to pick them up, because they won't.
-We let local bands flier their Swayze's shows at Swayze's for free (limit 2 band members per non-capacity show -- write us if you have any questions). This is a great opportunity to listen to some music, meet some new friends, and network with other bands. Please don't just show up to the bigger shows that you want to see for free, we'll know that you're full of it (limit 2 band members per non-capacity show -- write us if you have any questions).
-Send us your mp3 to put on our Myspace player -- swayzesvenue@gmail.com
-Give us a copy of your CD. We'll play it in the club between bands.
-Consider selling advance tickets. You'll make $5 every ticket you sell. When you sell tickets for your show, the people that buy from you always show up and they tell their friends to come out as well.
-Keep writing music. If you never put out new songs for your fans to enjoy, they'll grow tired of your band. The same goes for your set list, so change your set list up every show. You should always try to make your set entertaining -- at least look like you're having fun while your on stage.
-Have a positive attitude. Be supportive of the other artists you play with and the clubs you play at. No one likes a band full of jerks or a band with that one guy that constantly injects drama wherever he goes.
Thanks you for supporting Swayze's -- the longest running all ages music venue in the Southeast!
