These two untitled pieces remain as embryonic works, with this release forming the only documentation of the previous lineup of the group. This cassette is limited to 100 copies, and is co-released by Sabbatical and Sweatlung. Copies were available initially at the shows during February 2010, and now from the respective labels while copies remain... PURCHASE AT www.sweatlung.com
MALAKAT COLLECTED TRACKS + YELLOW SWANS / GREY DATURAS / MALAKAT COLLAGE 2XCD

MALAKAT, the reclusive duo of Edryan H Ja’afar & Simon Taylor (Krystoffkrvstoffiston / Whitehorse / Bone Sheriff) produce slow cooked broths of desert dunes and Indonesian street murmur, spitting, creaking and momentous lumbering that never make it to the bottom of the hill.
Disc two of this release contains a Malakat collage of unreleased material from a Yellow Swans & Grey Daturas collaboration. Recorded in Melbourne 2006, the slow working process of Malakat allowed the generation of distinctly odd mutations of sounds from the session captured by Malakat in swinging pots, pipes and a clay skull. Tracks were processed and assembled according to their singular yet incremental mindset... PURCHASE AT www.sweatlung.com

Review of PIG HEART TRANSPLANT 'Hope You Enjoy Heaven CD from www.aquariusrecords.org:
What might you expect from a band called Pig Heart Transplant? With a record called Hope You Enjoy Heaven? And song titles like "Prison / Fortress", "Crawling Through Hell", "Abject. Debased. Diseased" and "I Video Tape Your Diet"? What if the band featured members of Spazz, Silentist, Iron Lung, Despise You, Artimus Pyle, Gob, Brainoil and more? What if we told you they shared some splits with dirgedoomnoise duo Blue Sabbath Black Cheer? Yeah, you'd probably come up with something like THIS.
A punishing slab of slow motion power violence, crushing downtuned guitars, pounding drums, harsh hellish vokills, everything dripping with filth and murk, total Man Is The Bastard worship for sure. Low end all over the place. Some tracks the guitars are burning hot, the production way in the red, others are super creeped out murkscapes of industrial pound and processed vox, while still others are sludge-doom trawls through all manner of crusty low slung dirgemetal, and a couple are long buzzing drones, with howled vocals over the top, sounding a bit like a low end deathmetal Whitehouse. Maybe our favorite track though, is "Feeding From Your Trough", reminding us a bit of Geronimo, a fucked up mechanical sprawl of pounding crunch and hissing static, dripping with distortion and noise, locked into a stumbling lurching rhythm, with some chunks of grinding heaviness that sound like they could blow out your speakers, slipping from clipped robotic trudge, to hateful blacknoise dirge and back again. Some seriously harrowing shit for sure. Which as you probably know by now, means WAY recommended. At least for those in the mood for some murky and menacing musical punishment.

Review of RAHDUNES cd from www.aquariusrecords.org
So far our only real exposure to Rahdunes, has been their recent split with krauty drone combo Expo '70 (and a few cd-r's and tapes here and there), but on that split, they definitely demonstrated their ability to conjure up some seriously cosmic sounds.
So here we have the first proper full length cd from kosmiche astral travelers Rahdunes and it's pretty fantastic. And fantastical.
A longform soundscape of garbled guitars, and smeared melody, a forever unwinding sonic tapestry, woven from disembodied ghostly voices, spidery guitar melodies, haunting whirring woodwinds, all dipped in LSD and doused in a suitcase full of fractured effects. Delay collides with reverb, guitars crumble to pieces only to have those pieces drift lazily heavenward, when riffs do surface, they seem to simply hover, looping in on themselves, creating slow shifting sonic latticeworks, through which all manner of synths and sounds intertwine. Most of the tracks darkly meditative, the sounds pulsing and throbbing softly, creating barely perceptible rhythms, the you feel in your bones and seeping into your skin more than you hear it.
Electronics drift through ethereal clouds of distant bagpipe melodies, of buzzing low end rumbles, thick slabs of shimmery black murky splinter into fragments that collide in mid air with impossibly distorted voices, it's like some krautrock band flew to the moon and plugged their guitars into funhouse mirrors, everything woozy and gloriously unhinged, tripped out and drug drenched, what percussion there is, is mostly chimes and bells, and more often than not, those sounds are buried along with everything else beneath undulating layers of whirring spaced out effects, and blurred abstract melodies. Totally and gloriously fucked up, the perfect soundtrack for tripping out, and drifting off.
Total inner space / outer space introspection overload.
Which means we LOVE it. Beautiful oversized gold and green on creme printed packaging, equal parts cave drawings and old quilt. So cool.
Magnetics "We Are The Mountains, We Are The Fields"

Magnetics is the Melbourne duo of percussionist & vocalist Sarah Heyward (The Focus) and guitarist Ben Andrews (Blarke Bayer / Agents Of Abhorrence / My Disco).
Layering guitars and percussion Magnetics drift from sparse soundscapes to melodic passages of melodic guitar and dreamy vocals. Jarrod Zlatic of Fabulous Diamonds makes a guest appearance wielding his sax on one of the tracks.

Review of JUSTICE YELDHAM 'Cicatrix' CD from www.aquariusrecords.org
What initially sounds like a super distorted overblown recording of Hendrix playing his wild "Star Spangled Banner", or a super grinding fuzz drenched synth noise psych rock blow out, or some insane ultra processed Japanese psychedelic solo guitar freakout, is in fact, a 40 something man, covered in blood, holding a huge piece of contact mic'ed broken glass in his mouth. Huh?
Such is the musical world of Mr. Justice Yeldham. We weren't sure what to expect actually, conceptually we were definitely intrigued. A guy who records himself smashing his face against panes of glass, moaning and humming into the glass resulting in all sorts of bizarre alien sounds, and often ending up with the glass shattering and much blood being shed. He had us at glass and blood. The cd sleeve is even a patchwork of bloodied band-aids (euwww).
But when we finally got the disc, the sounds were just as amazing, maybe even more so than the process, which is definitely a rare occurrence. How many records have we gotten, where the story of the recording was way more fascinating that the resulting music? Way too many. The thing with this Yeldham disc, is it's actually quite listenable as well. Ostensibly a noise record, the sounds here are anything but run of the mill noise, they range from strange fuzzy drones, wailing streaks of coruscating feedback, crumbling synth like blasts (parts of this almost sound like samples from the Justice record!), grinding gnarled squalls of super distorted buzz and every strange fuzzy buzzy stop in between. And every once in a while you have to remind yourself that THIS IS A GUY WITH HIS FACE PRESSED UP AGAINST A PIECE OF GLASS! A piece of glass that just may shatter at any second. And the more feverish and frenzied the sounds become, the more strain is placed on the glass, and the more imminent shatter and bloodshed becomes. So weird, and so goddamn awesome.
Comes in a cool velour lined cd sleeve, adorned with images of band-aids and blood, inside a full color booklet with tons of photos of Yeldham performing live, amazing and intense, some weird, some strangely beautiful, some super disturbing, most of them really bloody!!
Melbourne residents Chris Smith and Justin Fuller have been creating and documenting various forms of music together since the late 1990's.
Over seven years in the making, their new eponymous long-player takes in pre-occupations with austere, shimmering textures, maxist shuddering walls of noise, and many things between.
A broad and compelling approach in terms of sound-source and recording technique, any aspect suggesting theory or intellect is already overcome by brut physicality and lilting tear-jerkers.

Review of CHRIS SMITH JUSTIN FULLER cd fron www.aquariusrecords.org
Dug up 5 or 6 of these. Thought they were sold out for a while now, so grab em while you can...
We're huge fans of Australian guitarist Chris Smith, but until now had only ever been able to get a hold of the split 12" he shared with the Ivytree. There have been plenty of other releases, but the only proper stateside release has been out of print for ages. So finally, we managed to get a bunch of these, Smith and fellow countryman Justin Fuller's first full length collaboration, a full 7 years in the making, and it's quite nice.
Hard to discern exactly what the instrumentation is, there are most certainly guitars, and according to the liner notes there is also piano and accordion, but with records like this, it's not what you're playing, it's how you play them and what you do with the sounds once you've made them. These two wrangle the various sounds into long stretches of slow shifting ambience. Some tracks are delicate and dark, barely there shimmers of crumbling low end and distant glimmering high end, while others are massive walls of guitar, churning chaotically, but smoothed into warm thick whorls. The heavier tracks definitely remind us of Sunroof! or Vibracathedral Orchestra or even a less mangled Wolf Eyes or a way prettier SUNNO))). The prettier tracks have a bit of Tim Hecker going on, all blissy and fuzzy and beautifully blurred. The whole record is quite dreamy in fact, whether buzzing malevolently, or drifting languorously, a gorgeous chunk of blissed out guitardrone. The usual suspects will definitely need this...
Ian Wadley "three uneasy pieces"

Ian's debut solo release finds him armed with just a guitar and a few effects pedals creating layered meandering pieces.
Ian has played in many bands including Bird Blobs and Function in the last year he has played at SXSW and All Tomorrows Parties (curated by the Dirty Three)

WHITEHORSE LIVE AT SINKAGURA, OSAKA 29.06.2005 cd..

The third WHITEHORSE release is 2 songs recorded live during the Japanese tour of 2005. This is the only document of these songs and the last recording with the second line-up of the band.
THIS RELEASE IS STILL AVAILABLE: $12 Australian post paid in Australia or $12 US post paid the world
What www.aquariusrecords.org said about this one:
In the review of the last Whitehorse cd, we went on a bit about their propensity for releasing eps, and live eps at that. And only a few days later we got a sheepish email from the band, seeing if we wanted copies of their new record, a live ep?!?! Arghhhh. Well, the band has promised us that next stop will be the studio for a proper studio recorded full length, but what the hell, another 30 plus minutes of soul crushing sludge can never be a bad thing, and in the case of Whitehorse it's a very very good thing indeed. This time, the live show in question took place in Japan, but the sound is not that far removed from the first two eps. A massive slow moving lumbering sludge metal behemoth, trudging through graveyards, and ruined villages, the depths of hell and everywhere in between. This two track set is actually a wee bit speedier than their other recordings, which is a lot like saying a turtle is a wee bit faster than a tortoise, as this is still slow motion tarpit doom, but the pace is not so funereal, instead the vibe is much more Eyehategod than Khanate this time around, still harsh and abrasive and brutally heavy, but there's almost a groove going on. Which definitely lends the proceedings a sort of stonery doom vibe. As always really fucking great! Fans of Corrupted, Khanate, Eyehategod, Bunkur, Moss and all that is slow and heavy will not be disappointed.
Packaged in a beautifully printed oversized cardboard sleeve.
WHITEHORSE CAVERNS cd

The second WHITEHORSE release Caverns was released in conjunction with the band's tour of Japan in June / July 2005. This recording was laid down by the second line-up of the band which included Nekrasov who has since begun releasing solo black metal material under the Nekrasov moniker. A single epic 27 minute track of slow sludge torture.
NOTE: THIS RELEASE IS OUT OF PRINT
A review of this release from www.aquariusrecords.org:
Record number two from Australian doom dirge juggernaut Whitehorse. And whaddaya know? It's another live record! But so what!?!? If they sound this heavy and this brutal live, why even bother going in the studio? In fact, we're sort of afraid of what might happen if these guys actually did make it into a studio. Not sure we could handle it! This is intense stuff. Massively heavy, so slow and plodding it's almost ambient, with huge stretches of near silence, while the crumbling remnants of the last riff drift earthward before the next riff comes crashing down. Shrieked inhuman screams, and plodding drum beats set at least a mile apart, moans and drifting guitars and cymbal sizzle drift like tendrils of black smoke between each Teutonic crush. Hell they even have a guy in the band credited with just "Rumblings." Fuck yeah! Think Khanate, Bunkur, Corrupted, Eyehategod. So so so good! Packaged in a beautifully printed oversized cardboard sleeve.
WHITEHORSE WEST OF THE SUN / OCEANS TURN TO BLACK cd

Both the debut release of Melbourne, Australia's sludge juggernauts WHITEHORSE and the birth of the SWEATLUNG label. WEST OF THE SUN / OCEANS TURN TO BLACK captures the early days (shows 4 and 5) of Whitehorse and is the only recordings of the original line-up. Two 20 plus minute, noise-ridden, sludge epics. Recorded in October / November 2004 this CD was released in Jan / Feb 2005.
NOTE: THIS RELEASE IS OUT OF PRINT. THE MATERIAL FROM THIS RELEASE HAS BEEN REISSUED AS A PART OF THE WHITEHORSE DOUBLE CD ON 20 BUCK SPI
