Sweet Laredo are: Sarah J. Scott and Dan W. Coggins
They met in London where Bristolian Sarah had gone to learn things and multi-instrumentalist Dan was on a foray down from the Durham hills.
Finding a shared love of soul, jazz, blues and hip-hop they began to collaborate on smoked-out,beats-driven tunes. These were then stripped back to be played only on a battered old spanish guitar giving full reign to Sarah's incredible voice which veers wildly between the gutsy blues moan of Etta James and the smoked-out rasps of Eryka Badu.
After playing their first gig at London's Jazz Cafe they developed their tunes with gigs as a duo around Britain and Europe.
And so began experimental recording sessions in Dan's bedroom and down-time at legendary North London studio Sweet Georgia Brown's.
Grabbing top players from varying musical backgrounds to add extra seasoning,a lo-fi country-soul record was conceived.
After further drum sessions at The Sunderland Bunker in North-East England,it was decided to infuse the stew with the many flavours of this green and pleasant land...
Thus, the double-bass and 30gb hard-disk were strapped to an old VW and slowly dragged to a large vicarage in a small Cornish fishing village where the sunny winter beaches were to add the final uplifting ingredient to Views From The Manse.
At gigs you may see them free-styling with double bass, piano, flutes, sax, a full band or just a guitar and a voice. Sweet Laredo's vibe has always been to fuse different styles and collaborate with as many quality musicians as they can lay their grubby hands on. Recent projects include an album collaboration and live European tour with Grand Central Records, Jon Kennedy and 12"single 'The Notion' with Flevans of Brighton label Tru-Thoughts, home of Quantic and Alice Russell (the track is also available on Tru-Thoughts Shapes Red compilation album and Electric Soul Volume 3)
The band's beautifully-crafted eponymous debut album (2003) was self-financed and was received with great acclaim and gained a host of positive reviews. Their second album Views from the Manse (Belleville Records - 2005) is allegedly available now on general release in Europe and Canada. But if you can find a copy you're a better man than me
........The next album is currently being recorded in sunny Bristol........

You may have heard my guitar playing and not even realized it was me. I played with Buddy Holly, and when you listen to "It's So Easy" or "Heartbeat"...well, that is me.
We will play some of the Buddy Holly songs that i played on so many years ago, and a few more! I might even sing a couple.
I hope you can make one of the dates?
