imikimi - Customize Your World! .. Hello everyone! Thanks to those of you that have been so awesome and have gotten to know a little about me. For those of you who haven't yet, well let's see.....I am 31 years old(Dec 27 1977)and I reside in sunny San Diego Ca. I own a home here with my family Martin,Donovan,Jewelia and Brooklynn.I have lived in California all my life and I love it here! In my spare time I love to sing,write lyrics,take photos and hang out with my kids. My friends and family are of the utmost importance to me. One you get to know me and make me your friend, I will be your forever friend. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations. Before I was a Mom, I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night. Before I was a Mom, I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests. Or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep. Before I was a Mom, I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom. Before I was a Mom, I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy. Before I was a Mom, I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom . Advocacy...education...support…rebuilding lives Advocacy BSTTW views advocacy as one of the most important areas of rebuilding and saving lives. Often individuals and family members who suffer the emotional and physical effects of a burn injury or death find meaning in their experience by volunteering with BSTTW, offering support, friendship to other burn survivors and family members and becoming advocates for the changes needed to help others. BSTTW continues to work with the National Association of State Fire Marshals in the USA and The Fire Chiefs in Coahuila, Mexico. In 2005 BSTTW began working with the Fire Chiefs in Assiut, Egypt. BSTTW Volunteers have translated the BSTTW Fire Safety Materials (BFSM) and other important information educational and support materials into 12 different languages. The BFSM is used by families, schools, children, companies and the general public in order to increase fire safety and to lower the number of fires, injuries, deaths and property damage. All BSTTW volunteers are eligible to apply for and receive the BSTTW Volunteer Certificate and the President’s Volunteer Service Award. BSTTW Online: It’s really awesome to find another website that helps support burn survivors. On May 2nd 2001 I had the worst day of my life. I woke up like any other day. After I proceeded to get out of the shower, I noticed a funny smell threw out the house. The entire house was filled with gas. My son went running into the living room and my daughter was still on the bed. The entire house exploded. I had glass fly in my face and I was severely flash flame burned. I was not so concerned with myself but I wanted to make sure the kids were ok. I went and got the baby and when I got outside with her my son was already out with someone who heard the explosion from down the street. I was air lifted to UCSD burn unit in San Diego. I was in a coma for a month and in the hospital for a total of 3 months. I was only 22 years old. I was burned 53% of my body. My scars are my war scars reminding everyday that I fought a battle and won. And I am a survivor! Angel Vemich, Burn Survivor
