General
No... Just a corporal.
Music
The good stuff. Like the last little bits of Funeral Girl, by Daniel Johnston, where you can just barely hear him sniffle back tears as the sound fades. Or like in that one System of a down song...(I know I know. But some of their shit is perfect) The one with the dreaming tonight-dreaming alright part. (which is pretty fucking bomb as well) But its the part in the chorus that starts do we, do we know when we die... That whole chorus will punch you in the neck if you let it. Something about how the combination of the vocals and backups that feels so urgent and important, but in a far off, quiet-loud kind of way. Like when you see a jet in the sky, and it looks like its just barely moving, but you know its going REALLY fucking fast. When Carmen McRae coughs at the end of Let There Be Love, as the applause overtakes the fading band. And all of the other parts of those other songs that'll kill a fool. Daily, those parts make half of a ferry ride seem less appealing.
Movies
Phantom of the Paradise, because hearts are broken and the bad guys win. Same with Leon, The Proffesional. Millers Crossing, because it'll show you what happens to a motherfucker when he gives a guy the high hat. It is also an amazing testament to the power of social networking. The Producers. The Messengers. Explorers. The Last Starfighter. The Flight of the Navigator. The second half of Star Wars IV: A New Hope. Harry Potter, and if you disagree, you must have never really wanted to escape, or you're too hung up on politics and marketing conspiracy theories to realize that some stuff is popular because its actually good. (Don't forget that the conspiracies are being sold to you too, so you might as well try and enjoy yourself a little.)
Television
I have a TV, but it doesn't get channels. Its an awesome night light though. I highly recommend a snow T.V., and some white neon to compliment any room at night. It gives it that kind of hospital-y, sorta, waiting room at Juno's office in Beetlejuice feeling. Like dreamy but not good dreamy...Not necessarily bad dreamy, but not comfortable dreamy either. OOH! like the scene in the O.G. Terminator, when he first goes to Sarah Conner's house! Just, not quite right light.
Books
Flowers for Algernon. That one, and Ham on Rye, are two books nobody should live without. I might have included Johnny Got His Gun, had I not read it when I was nine. That kind of unapologetic and ultimately pointless reality can't do anything but fuck a little kid up.
Heroes
Paul Williams, Hunter Thompson, Winslow Leach, Seymour Krelborne, Elbert Watt, Will Mucker, Swan, Darth Vader, Frank Poncharello, Rael, Charles Bukowski, Jim Croce, Bill Withers, Daniel Johnston, Jimi Hendrix, Shaun Buffalomeat, Randy Critz, Little Richard, Linda Rondstadt, Eileen Weurnos, The Cusak's (Both of whom, I would gladly hump), Ice Cube, Jello Biafra, Alexis Lopez, Justin Palm, Don Knotts, Johnathan Winters...Oh, Jesus. Wow. Like, oh, I almost forgot Jesus... And like, oh, jesus, thats too many people, and hardly anybody stays a hero if you get to know them.
