The Sweet Wasp Trio brand of Jazz is a laid back blues groove with a hint of world sounds via some Reggae and latin influences. The band consists of Guitar (Dan Sowerby), Double Bass (Matt Paull) and Drums (Jools Owen). Still quite a new band, they were formed at the end of 2008 by Dan Sowerby to with the aim of providing mellow but engaging music to create atmosphere at restaurants, bars and clubs. The ethos of the band is very much to play the music they love and through improvisation on a theme, be that a jazz standard an original composition, to let the music take them and the audience on a journey. The Sweet Wasp Trio certainly never play a tune the same way twice! Dan has worked as a session guitarist for many years both live and in the studio, including work with Boney M and The Drifters but for him The Sweet Wasp Trio is all about playing the music he loves the most and always returns to; Jazz and Blues. Matt Paull has been a mainstay on the Salisbury music scene since he was picked up to play drums for the well know local band 'Redwing' at the tender age of only 14! Having moved onto bass for this project his playing goes from strength to strength, providing the solid groove that underpins all the Sweet Wasp tunes. Since Jools Owen completed his music degree two years ago he has been making a name for himself doing drum sessions for many bands, performing his own music and playing with Salisbury roots blues band 'The Fortunate Three'.
The Sweet Wasp Trio regularly play at the Fisherton Mill, Salisbury for their fabulous dinner evenings.
