Sounds Like
An eclectic, high-energy mix of traditional bluegrass and progressive "newgrass".
Formed in the fall of 2007, Sweetwater is the culmination of several years of jamming and playing within the Pennsylvania bluegrass scene. It all happened at one informal jam in Ian’s living room. The sound. The chemistry. Everything was there. The decision to form a band was an easy one.
PERSONNEL:
Mandolin: Adam Laird- a veteran of the State College scene from bands such as Northern Shoveler and Little Townes, Adam brings his Monroe-like touch to Sweetwater.
Fiddle: Laura Orshaw- fiddle phenom Laura is well known and respected for her impressive skills on the fiddle, and is a fine vocalist to boot.
Banjo: Ian McLelland- Bluegrass is a family affair for Ian, member of PA’s premier Northern Tier bluegrass band, Grass Stained Genes. Ian’s banjo stylings are both hard-driving and tasteful.
Dobro: John Welshans- A 30-year veteran of the bluegrass scene, John brings great skills on both dobro and songwriting to the band, as well as his extensive knowledge of music theory.
Guitar: Cory Kodish- An astounding talent on flat-top guitar, Cory picks among the best in the country.
Bass: Saravanan Sankaran- Quickly becoming a fixture in the northeastern US bluegrass scene, bassist Sav holds the band together with a bass line steady as Gibraltar and a heartbreaker of a voice!
