A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER
The germ of an idea that would become SWiSH began on the corner of Greenwich and Christopher Streets during the 2002 NYC Gay Pride Parade. I was enjoying the parade -- my first -- with 8 of my gay boyfriends. And it selfishly occurred to me: "How can I be in this parade?" I thought, "These men are such a big part of my life. I go shoe shopping with my gay friends, sing with them, march for them, talk about love and sex with them, quote Will and Grace with them, spend date nights with them. I'm a tried and true fag hag!"
That was it. I'd establish the first-ever fag hag float for NYC PrideFest 2003. My friends loved the idea. We didn't think it had ever been done before. And with the help of these wonderful men, and my sister hags, SWiSH was born in the Fall of 2002.
SWiSH is a gay-straight social alliance, primarily made up of straight, saavy, cosmopolitan women and our dearest gay male friends. We have the pink, feminine aesthetic and the martini glasses and the kitschy chatter. But our pride for our gay friends, both men and women, runs deep. Politically and socially we are gay, through and through.
Many of us have lost gay friends and family before their time to AIDS, and it is their spirit, creativity, flair for the dramatic, and love of life on which SWiSH thrives. Our first public outing on June 29th in the 2003 PrideMarch honored them. We know they were watching us, all dolled up, from the big pride parade in the sky.

About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
