Switchback the South African band took the wings when they won the 5Fm Unearthed competition with the anthem, "Troublegirl. nothing could be further from the truth,.Switchback is fronted by singer/guitarist John Dirker begun composing his own songs in 2003 played their first gig at Noon-to- noon festival and the response they got from everyone overwhelmed them that they went on to record their first demo in Stellenbosch at Sunset Studios wich led to a win,the prize consisted of a Rp studios recordings with top producer Neil Snyman(Arno Carstens)in Jhb and caught the eye of make it or break it Barney Simon who went on and praise them over radio week by week and getting e-mails from overseas listeners via streaming audio requesting their songs and quoting awesome remarks wanting to find out more about the band,Barney the rock guru featured them on the World chart show also stated in a issue of Make some noise magazine Switchback to be one of his top 5 favourite S.A bands and on top of that chosen by Shaun Morgan from Seether as one of his favourites too " John’s voice at times is eerily similar to Nirvana’s late great youth frontman Kurt Cobain,containing unmistakable elements of traditional rock stated by SL magazine..but hey.. the sound of grunge can continue to live on thanks to this band..
The band had a setback with John Dirker fracturing his back in a motocross accident and was almost paralyzed then losing his dad a few weeks later,the only thing that kept him going was the music he made he played guitar while he was lying down in a brace for a very long time,it was the only way to express himself. He then decided to put the bike aside and used the money to record another two songs with Evert de munnik at Rp Studios(Jhb)from here everything started to happen the band said, ‘people as far as Durban e-mailed us’.

Hey Wassup SWitchback buddies...John!!!Well yeah on friday Ill be back home in the Sunny SA!!!So yeah Im hoping to see you guys hey,Hopefully Im hoping!!And When I do ill be like John John....Its me hahaha!!No worries I wont frighten you one stage!!So Yeah man,I hope that your future is looking good with the band and moving over to the states and all,oh yeah and your tour,It will be befok im sure,the americans dont know whats heading there way yet ahah!!So yeah Guys Im hoping to be able to visit your page often in south africa but if not hey,Il need to get a cd to hear those awesome tunes guys!!Switchback rules and I wont forget you guys.....youve been a flippen awesome inspiration to me and Im sure a lot of people and I hope you guys will continue to do so!!
