Drawing from African influences and their South African roots Swivel Foot combine the “question everything” mindset of punk rock with sounds and conditions of the streets of Johannesburg.
Their music speaks with a tone of relevance, offering inspiration the people, The songs and creed hold dear the sentiments of tolerance, unity, progress, freedom and expression.
The release of their debut EP “the Last Round” in 2007 showcased the beginnings of the band, working class realities, the energy of raw street punk rock and the atmosphere of family and brotherhood. The follow up single “Lights Out”, off the upcoming album “The Streets of Johannesburg”, paints a picture of their hometown, the band voices a love for the city and calls to the people to come home. “There’s something out there that I can’t explain but it’s the greatest thing, the night skyline on the horizon…I’m on my way to Jo’burg city glory”
What started out as pure and simple punk rock has become a mash up of local sounds resulting in a kwela roots reggae infected journey of discovery and development – an eclectic South African via Johannesburg street punk sound that will get everyone from rudeboys to rockers dancing and singing along.
