About me:

SMITH-WELCH MEMORIAL LIBRARY
105 W. 5TH ST.
HEARNE, TEXAS 77859

We consider it an honor to serve the people of Robertson County and surrounding areas. You do not have to be a resident of Robertson County to become a member of the Library. We welcome all who wish to utilize our facility

We are open 5 days a week - Monday-Friday. Our hours of operation are:

8:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.

To get a library card, you must have some form of ID (driver license, or ID card) and, if you are under 18, parental consent. This means that a parent must accompany their child to the Library in order to obtain a library card for the child under 18. Children under 5 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult when visiting the library.

Adult books are checked out for a period of 4 weeks; juvenile books are checked out for a period of 2 weeks. The due date is never a day we are closed. All overdue books will be charged a fine of 10 cents per day, which will include days we are closed since the book(s) is already overdue. You may renew books over the telephone, as long as they are not overdue, by calling us

Our Library is fully automated with an Online Card Catalog database. The bulk of our book funds are spent on current best-seller hardcover fiction, which is what the majority of our patrons demand. If you want a particular title, we will try to order it for our collection and if that is not possible, we will try to secure it from Interlibrary Loan sources. Our juvenile section is also kept up to date with new releases. Smith-Welch has a large selection of paperbacks, from Westerns to Romance, which mainly have been donated to us by patrons

We happily accept book and magazine donations provided we have room for them. In fact, we would take every single book and magazine offered since we are wild about books and reading materials but, due to our limited space, we must select carefully.

Through Central Texas Library System, of which we are a member, we can access the TexShare Databases and also Interlibrary Loan services.

Other services provided by the Library include: six (6) computers just for games (no access to the internet) as well as fourteen (14)computers dedicated for Internet access with a time limit of one(1) hour use per person, unless they have made prior arrangements due to circumstances which would require additional computer time.), copies (black) from copy machine, computer printer, black and color, faxing services, laminating, photo scanning and printing, and various graphic services. Prices vary for each service required. Inquire about other services you might have need of and we will see if we can help you.

    Thanks for including me!

It is a great day to be alive!
What Question can I ask to empower myself and others?
What new thought can I notice now to add to my creativity?
How can I improve the experience of those I encounter today?
What can I do to facilitate your Gift?

    Yesterday Is History
    Tomorrow is a Mystery
    Today is a Gift...
That's why we call it the Present

"DIVERTING THE BUDDHA is an ambitious novel that delivers through a vivid portrayal of the treachery and deceit that emerged during the catastrophic Vietnam War. Bob Swartzel wastes little time in immersing his readers in a chaotic world where poor innocent people are caught between a corrupt Vietnamese leadership, as well as the self-interest of a few profiteers and an American foreign policy gone amok. Among the many achievements of this novel is Swartzel’s ability to provide his readers with a realistic sense of the historical setting the characters inhabit. No doubt, there are many novels pertaining to the Vietnam War, however, this one stands out as an unforgettable tale at its most emotional and painful with its multiple perspectives pertaining to the politics and history recounted in human terms."
