    Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue's Interests
GeneralPoem to an Abandoned Gift Author Unknown 'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town, every shelter is full - we are lost but not found. Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare, we hope every minute that someone will care. They'll come to adopt us and give us the call, "Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!! But now we sit here and think of the days we were treated so fondly - we had cute, baby ways, Once we were little, then we grew and we grew - now we're no longer young and we're no longer new. So out the back door we were thrown like the trash, they reacted so quickly - why were they so rash? We "jump on the children", "don't come when they call", we "bark when they leave us", we "climb over the wall." We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed, now we suffer the consequence of the errors they made. If only they trained us, if only we knew... we'd have done what they asked us and worshipped them, too. We were left in the backyard, or worse, left to roam, now we're tired and lonely and out of a home. They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye... "Maybe someone else will give you a try." So now here we are, all confused and alone... in a shelter with others who long for a home. The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat, with so many to care for, they can't stay to chat. They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer... we know that they wonder how long we'll be here. We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds. Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears - our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear. ..... In parents' haste to think of a gift for the kids, there was one important thing that they missed. A dog should be family, and it's just not humane To put a living, feeling pet outside on a chain. If only Santa exclaimed as he rode out of sight, "You weren't giving a gift! You were giving a life!" Please remember that pets are people too. So please take into consideration that if you are going to give pets as gifts, that they will indeed, be taken care of and loved properly, as all pets should.

About me:
WHO IS PAYTON'S PLACE/SOUTHWEST OHIO DOBERMAN RESCUE .. Payton's Place/Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer based organization, dedicated to placing homeless Doberman Pinschers into new and loving homes. We rely solely on donations to continue and expand our work. Every dollar contributed goes directly to the rescue, care, and placement of the dogs, such as operating expenses, care of the dogs, shelter fees, veterinary care and medications, and equipment. No one at Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue receives a salary; we have no paid employees or board members. Our volunteers are all extremely committed people who, from the goodness in their hearts and for the love of this magnificent breed, generously give of their time, money and devotion. These volunteers work full time jobs, have families and dogs of their own, as well as volunteering for the Rescue... WHAT WE DO -.. Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Dobermans in need. These Dobermans come from varied backgrouns. Some have been abandoned or neglected, some have been given up due to divorce, relocation, or because an owner is unable to dedicate the time the dog needs and deserves... We strive to place these Dobermans into responsible, caring and permanent homes. Before placement in a new home, each dog has been checked by the veterinarian, updated on vaccinations, checked for heartworms, spayed/neutered, wormed, and micro-chipped. Each dog is aon a regimen of heartworm preventative while in our program. Veterinarian records are maintained and are provided to the adoptive family. We also evaluate, as best as possible, each dog for behavior and temperament... After placement, we are always available to the adoptive family, should they need any assistance. We also help care for those dogs less fortunate-those that need a little time to regain their health, or those that may have behavioral problems which require extra training before going to a new home... In addition, if any individual is considering giving up his/her Doberman, we will see if we can offer them guidance in order to keep the dog with the family that he loves. .. We have also been instrumental in transporting, sheltering, and caring for dogs from other rescue organizations. We are always willing to help when we can... Last but not least, we hope we are doing our part in public education of this breed. We try to inform people of this breed's requirements, need for training, socialization and exercise, as well as responsible dog ownership. .. In doing so, we hope to be able to aid in the fight against pet overpopulation, and morever, help prevent other unfortunate Dobermans from ending up in shelters... Together we can make a difference! If you are thinking of getting a new friend, please consider adopting a rescue dog.

This might NOT be one of our most frequently asked questions, but we WISH it were. There is so much to do that our volunteers have a hard time getting it all done. The need for safe and loving foster homes is enormous - but this can't be just a couple day commitment. We need homes that will watch the dog until he or she is placed. We need phone volunteers to return calls and, when trained, counsel people on how to place - or even better - how to work with their dog to try to keep him or her in the family. We need people to copy, collate, and prepare adoption packets. We need collars, toys, bedding, and flea and heartworm medicines. The adoption application can be found here: http://www.swohiodoberescue.org/Adopt/Application.htm

Hello ~ thank you for being a friend of Moon Warriors.
I am drumming up signatures for 14 petitions to stop the gassing of healthy, loving animals in the USA, so please visit my blog and sign them!

This video shows what can be done ~ it is not necessary to kill so many animals, nor kill them in an inhumane manner

Cat House on the Kings Cat Sanctuary ~ amazing video

Close kill shelters and start sanctuaries - click here to sign petitions

Please visit the blog and sign petitions to end the animal gas chambers.
There are 14, if you could sign at least some of them that would be great ~ Have a good weekend ~ Thank you for helping animals

Prayer of a Stray

Dear God please send me somebody who'll care!
I'm tried of running, I'm sick with despair.
My body is aching, it's so racked with pain,
and dear God I pray as I run in the rain.

That someone will love me and give me a home.
A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.
My last owner tied me all day in the yard
Sometimes with no water and God that was hard!

So I chewed my leash God and I ran away
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God I'm tired and hungry and cold.
And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones
While I run the streets just looking for bones!
I'm not really bad God, please help if you can,
For I have become just a "victim of man!

I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas
and All that I want is an owner to please!
If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good
And I won't chew their shoes, but I'll do as I should.

I'll love them, protect them and try to obey
When they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay!
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own,
Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna to die!
And I've got so much love and devotion to give,
That I should be given a new chance to live.

So dear God please, please answer my prayer
and Send me someone who will really care ...
That is, dear God, if you're really there!
