Influences
Edward Lear, elementary school theater productions, Jeff Mangum, Leonard Cohen, lonely sing-song-y music (The Velvet Underground, Nick Drake, The Smiths, Van Morrison), wierd noise bands (The Swans, The Pixies, Faust, My Bloody Valentine), old old old folksongs ("Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still", "I Woke Up One Morning In May"), ESPECIALLY the song "Lose This Skin" by The Clash from the album SANDINISTA!, slowcore/sadcore (Galaxie 500, Spain, The Red House Painters).

It is a beautiful purpose for your life, yes. Just keep making music that gets deep into people like that and maybe the world will be a better place. Definitely it will be a better place.
I was standing around at work this morning with your songs running through my head and I realized just how heart breakingly beautiful the music you make is. I am very glad that you make it. Thank-you.
your music makes me feel really nice. like, really nice.
i'm really into big bands. especially at this point in my life, i feel like the key to life is to have as many horns and shakers and harmonies as possible.
thanks for the music.
(PSST ANDY, COME PLAY IN THE BARN IF YOU'RE HOME! ASAP!)
Jake, your voice is like Tim Cunningham- high most of the time and a pleasure to be around. I can't wait to get home so I can listen to this on my stereo. Sounds great guys.
I love Nico. I have for a while. Funnily, though, I honestly thought it was a man with a breathy/high voice on "The Velvet Underground with Nico". Then I realized she was a german fashion model DOT DOT DOT WEEEEIIIRRRDD REALIZATION.
I've heard of the Tall Dwarfs before, because I was reading about lo-fi music as a genre, and they were mentioned. But I'll definitely get some stuff by them now.
I've been slowly moving forward chronologically with punk influencing/influenced music. I started with proto-punk of 70's, now I've moved to Post-punk and college rock of the 80's. I finally realize why so many people say the Smiths are a great band...because they ARE! I've also been getting into Joy Division and the Replacements and other gems.
(I know, I kind of skipped punk itself, but I suppose I'll return to it sometime. )
I really love it. I think everything about it is just about perfect. I honestly think it wouldn't be half as good if Nico had her way, because I read she wanted drums, lots more guitars, and no orchestral arrangements.
"Forever changes" is good, and I like it, but I like "Da Capo" a lot more. It's also cool because it's got a really intense proto-punk song, and the album was released in 1967.
And, maybe we've already discussed this in the past, but do you like Os Mutantes?
thank you so much for catching our show. ...we should definitely get a show together. Hope to see you soon.... perhaps the Space Gallery show? sincerely, wesley
I thought you probably liked it. I've listened to it and loved it for awhile now. "These days" is fannntassssssiccc. I'll have to listen to "The End". I've also got "Desershore", which is way more melancholy and drone-y, but good.
I love "Paris 1919", especially the song with the same name. Great orchestral rock. I've actually never listened to Lou Reed(other than Metal Machine Music, HAH!). I've got "Transformer" downloaded, but do you have a better album suggestion to start on old Louie?
And on an unrelated topic, do you like the band Love? I've been listening to their album "Da Capo" a lot lately.
And here is the part where I talk about my own music: I probably won't have a tape album by summer as I originally thought, because I forgot about school, some how. But I've already recorded quite a bit of pretty good material. I'm going to record it onto my computer as a back up, just in case the tape gets FUCKED(gross!). I'll send you some of the highlights because we're internet buddies. I bet you're excited now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love "Nebraska". believe it or not, my favorites are probably "Born in the USA" and "the wild, the innocent & the E Street shuffle"! they don't call him The Boss for nothing.
