About me:
Definitely not the first of it's kind, and certainly not the last, "The Sycophants" is a new independent flick that follows the rules of true guerrilla film-making to a T.
Written, Directed & Edited by Matthew Campbell. Executive produced by Travis Wilson. Starring Cody Eickmeyer, Greg Vivrette and Jason More, this is a simple tale about Ryan Cody (Eickmeyer) and his equally important, yet psychologically inferior best friend, Craig Jones (Vivrette).
By day, Ryan and Craig work as Crime & Trauma Scene Decontamination Specialists. When someone gets their head blown off; an old woman dies in her sleep and nobody discovers the decomposing body for weeks or a meth house gets raided and shut down...Ryan and Craig are charged with the task of cleaning up the mess.
By night, however, Ryan works as a low level gun-runner/associate to the mob and Craig is a serial murderer who mainly targets waitress's off the clock. The day job is a perfect front for their mischievous extracurricular activities and, as Craig would tell you, the only reason he keeps the CTSD job is because it affords him the materials necessary for covering up all the evidence of his murders.
Then comes Jason "Jay" Colletta (More).
Jay Colletta is a young Mormon man that Ryan and Craig knockout and kidnap after suspecting him of having an affair with Ryan's girlfriend, Carry. As if that isn't enoung Ryan finds out earlier in the day that his boss put a hit out on his life. Why? It seems Ryan has been unknowingly selling guns to a rival "family".
In the next two days he has to figure out a way to save his neck, get Jay Colletta out of town on a one way plane to Fiji and get his girlfriend back. Ryan learns that sometimes when you're facing death you have to call on the help of some of your friends, even if your friends consist of a gun-runner, a serial killer, an associate to the mob, a drug dealer, a card shark and a Mormon. In a post 9/11 world, where God is dead and the dead are living, sometimes two out of three ain't bad.
