Started in 1966 by two brothers Mundy and Syd Arthur sons of the legendary big band leader Artie Arthur THE KNIGHTS OF JOY were a bubblegum novelty teen act who soon were taken quite seriously. They were the main progenitors of garage band rock. The sounds typified by their initial release; THESE ARE THE NIGHTS! was soon copied all over North America. Several hits followed including 1967's chart-topper SEVEN WAYS FROM SUNDAY and 1970's I"LL GET BY. After his younger brother Mundy overdoses Syd disappears into a deep seclusion. In the mid to late seventies he became assocated with the invention of the first drum machine. He recorded on home analog four-track in his basement apartment in Chicago through much of the eighties while making his living as an actor in the burgeoning Improv scene. He re-appeared in 1993 with SYD, THE KARAOKE KID his confessional addressing the role he played in industrializing music. THE KNIGHTS OF JOY and the whole Syd Arthur catalog is currently being remastered.
We proudly present this free download of HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. This is an improvised song Syd wrote for his newborn Ike.
