Hakkımızda Syd Barrett tribute at Night & Day Manchester
Hello my friends, some of you know me and some of you don't but I organized a Syd Barrett tribute night at Night & Day Cafe in Manchester on 28th September 2006. The night was an enormous success and £1000 was made for Cancer research UK. The bands were amazing, every one of them playing Syd Barrett covers - the night would also not have been what it was without the stunning visuals and films that Wayne had made. It was filmed and recorded so watch this space for updates and details. Thankyou everyone for taking part and making the night so special, warm and memorable, and most of all thankyou Syd.

Dear Friends, Well, it's been six months since my abdominal surgery, and finally the music is starting to flow again. I've written two new songs "Bridge Of Shadows" and something a little different for me called "Looking Glass Man"...my first song using a Strat. I've never owned a Stratocaster before, was always a Les Paul guy (still am). But my wife promised me a new Strat if I just acted brave; and survived the surgery of course. I guessed the Fender would influence me in some "twangy way", but I never imagined it would be a Johhny Cash way, (not that I'm complaining, always kind of liked him). So if you get the chance, please stop by and give them a listen. All my very best to you, and thanks for being friends through some really tough times for me, Your friend, David
To whom it may concern:
The Easter Bunny and I started drinking late last night and there's no sign of him slowing down anytime soon. So have a Happy Easter! The bunny will be around when he sobers up.
Hello My Dear Friends!
Sorry I haven't been in touch for so long, but over the winter I had major abdominal surgery, and though recovery has been slow, it has been steady and I'm starting finally to feel like my old self again. For surviving my wife bought me a new Stratocaster that I hope to include on some new songs in the very near future. I hope all is well with you and that 2009 is bringing BIG things your way. I just wanted to stop by and say I'm still alive ....literally!
All of my love and the absolute best to you and yours,
David England
Just dropped by to say: I have now made downloads available for free on all five of my MySpace websites (that's 30 tunes). Links to the other four can be found at the top of the friendlist of my main page. Hope your year is off to a great start. Thanks again for your friendship, I really appreciate it. My best, David
Just thought I'd drop by to wish you a very Merry Christmas! Hoping all your fantasies come true this holiday season. My love, and all my best to you and yours, David

Hi all
I hope you had a great time on the night.
My name is Ian Barrett - and I'm a nephew of Roger/Syd's
I live in Manchester and am gutted I couldn't make it to the show but I was on holiday in Kefalonia.
I just wanted to say thanks to all who came and especially all who played.
I'm sure Rog will be looking down tapping his feet!
Another thing I heard recently is that a brewery has created a beer as a tribute to him.
How cool is that!
'Crazy Diamond' it's called.
Maybe he was up there that night listening to you all play his songs while supping a pint of Crazy Diamond!
Love to all and sorry i couldn't come.
I'd love a copy of the DVD when it's finished though.
There was some great covers played last night. I'll only mention SOME of the ones I liked cos I don't like slagging people off who at least had the guts to get up on stage and do something. So 3 cheers to everyone
Trouble is I don't know the names of who they were or what most of the bands were called. The first band on 'Sophie's Pigeons' did a lovely foot tapping version of 'Two Of A Kind' which was great.
Early on a bloke went on stage and played a STORMING version of 'Flaming', he was playing electric guitar and singing along to a backing track but it sounded great. It was almost twice as fast as the original. Was funny though, he got the words wrong at one point and let a loud "shit!" which was rather funny. It was stomping.
A total madman did a great jumping up and down version, with his band, of 'Baby Lemonade'.
A band from Liverpool did a superb cover of 'See Emily Play'.
A group of young lads got up and said this was their first gig but they did 2 really good songs, the first one was 'Lucifer Sam' which was nicely done but a tad slow. They did the best, by far, version of 'Bike' complete with 'mouse' piano runs and bizarre sound effects at the end. For their first gig they did brilliantly.
A band did a completely bizarre but great version of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'. Thing is, this could have come from the soundtrack of 'Kill Bill', it was all very Spanish sounding complete with some great brass instruments. It was only when he started singing about 5 minutes into that any recognised what they were playing.
Another thing that was really good was that inbetween bands they had a video screen on which was displayed the 'Arnold Layne' promo, 'Jugband Blues' , 'Scarecrow', footage from 'Tonight..' but they also had some REALLY well but together specially made 'new' films for a couple of songs. One was for 'Flaming' and it had Syd animated from a photograph in the style of the animation from 'Monty Python' with lots of bizarre things moving across the screen and Syd playing his guitar in a 'cut out and paste ' type of way. They were REALLY good little videos and I'd LOVE to get copies of them . I've never seen them before. Will they be made available?
It was all being videoed from the sound desk from what I could make out. Will we be able to get a copy?
The only slightly negative aspect was that we had to listen to 'Bike' and 'Baby Lemonade' about 4 times EACH. There was loads of songs that could have been substituted instead of hearing the same songs over and over. 'Lucy Leave' is an easy song to play and would have sounded great played live but wasn't.
I'm glad I went. Hearing people cheering for the great late Syd Barrett was lovely! Was the first time too that I'd ever heard any of Syd's songs played live. I bet his spirit at least popped in to see what it was all about! If only for a minute! :p
Thanks to everyone involved for organising it, was great!
