Hey, I'm Sydney! I'm 18 and I grew up and live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. For the majority of my growing years, I could be found laced up on the soccer pitch, until a new passion called... music. As a shy kid, music opened up a whole new reality to me. Growing up, everyone has stories and tales to be told, I, for one, choose to tell mine through my music. I took piano as a young child and at around 11, I picked up a guitar, started taking lessons and wrote my first song . . . then second . . . then third. The possibilities were endless! I could write whatever words I felt, put it to my own melody and make it sound however I wanted. The childhood idea that "you can do anything you set your restless mind to," became a reality when I wrote my first song. Going through many of what I thought were "sophisticated songs," (at the time) I knew I would have to keep working and learning to achieve the sound I wanted. I started experimenting by recording on my own and posted songs on the internet for my family and friends to hear. Shortly thereafter, I started playing shows at bookstores and coffee houses. I received a lot of positive feedback which fed my lyrical mind to take this to a more serious level. I could express myself through music, communicating and harmonizing with an audience - literally. My music is a combination of musical genres as I find myself experimenting with a vast majority of sounds, always striving to grow as an artist. That could be because of a wide range of musical influences including metal, rock, pop, folk & acoustic ballads. I appreciate the wide range of emotions evoked by listening to different artists. I think what really got me into music was the subliminalicity (ya' I made that word up) of my dad's Beatles records. All my life, I've listened to him singing along to Beatles songs and I would often join in. Music is what always brings back memories and the joy of life's experiences. I respect those that came before me and hope to create memories for others through my songs. The majority of my songs are about growing up. To me, growing up means new chapters, taking risks and unfamiliar situations. I've come to the conclusion that growing up is all about perception and coming to good terms with who you are and who you are growing to be. I love to let my mind run free when I write and I rarely create a song knowing how it's going to end. I look forward to meeting what the future holds and to shaking hands with this crazy dream of mine. I sincerely appreciate all of the support everyone has given me along the way. I just released an EP which is available to download for free on purevolume. I'm really excited to have this out in the world's hands and hope you find some joy in it too. ~Sydney~
